    Neurodiagnostic Technician

     

    UnityPoint Health – Waterloo Center for Sleep/Allen Hospital

     

    Shift: Full-time; M-F 7 AM - 330 PM

    Potential Sign-On Bonus: $7,500 paid out over 2 years

     

    Responsible for performing routine and/or complex Neurodiagnostic studies utilizing various monitoring equipment and recording observations to collect diagnostic patient data used in detecting brain, cardiovascular and sleep disorders under the general supervision of the department manager.

    Responsibilities

    + Performs all modalities of Electroencephalographic examinations for patients as directed according to established department, national standards and practices.

    + Performs Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) examinations for patients as directed according to established standards and practices.

    + Performs daytime polysomnographic studies on shift workers.

    + Instructs, demonstrates, prepares, manages files, and dispenses home sleep units including commercial truck drivers/Department of Transportation.

    + Applies electrodes and other monitoring devices according to laboratory policies and procedures and ensures their continuous function to produce quality test data.

    + Maintains a high degree of clinical and technical knowledge to record routine and portable electroencephalograms (EEGs) on a digital EEG system. Testing includes EEG cerebral inactivity recordings, video EEG monitoring, and neonatal EEG studies; other testing includes Evoked Potentials testing, three modalities: visual, brain stem auditory, and upper and lower extremity somatosensory.

    + Troubleshoots the instrumentation and the monitors to assess and correct any mechanical or technical problems, and/or seeks medical or technical consultation if indicated. Transports, operates and maintains equipment in a safe and careful manner. Ensures an environmentally safe area.

    + Assists in scheduling test appointments, completing patient charges, and processing and filing test data and reports, as needed. Helps distribute neurodiagnostic test results.

    + Maintains satisfactory technical and professional communication with neurologists and other referring physicians, health care professionals, and laboratory personnel.

    + Ensures appropriate communications with patients to convey adequate instructions, allay their concerns, and always ensures patient safety and comfort.

    + Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment in the laboratory.

    + Assumes responsibility for standby call coverage when scheduled.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    + High School Diploma or equivalent

    + Graduate of an accredited electroneurodiagnostic program preferred

    License/Certification:

    + Licensed in Polysomnographic Technology in Iowa

    + Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

    Experience:

    + 6 months electroneurodiagnostic technology experience preferred
