    Job Description

    The Department of Theatre and Dance in the School of Arts, Media, & Communication at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi (TAMU–CC) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre (Lighting and Sound Design) beginning Fall 2026. We seek an innovative and collaborative designer-educator with demonstrated excellence in lighting design, sound design, and related technical areas to join a dynamic faculty. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in lighting, sound, stagecraft, and related areas; mentor student designers and technicians; design for departmental productions; and engage in ongoing creative and/or scholarly work.

     

    Faculty at TAMU–CC are expected to maintain active professional and creative activity/scholarly research, demonstrate excellence in teaching, contribute to departmental, school, and university service, and support the university’s mission as a Hispanic and Minority Serving Doctoral Research Institution dedicated to community engagement.

     

    The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi is a vibrant, student-centered program offering a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with concentrations in Acting/Directing, Design/Technology, as well as minors in Theatre and Dance. The department produces five mainstage theatre productions, three dance concerts, and numerous student-led projects annually. Faculty collaborate with a full-time technical staff, professional guest artists, and student crews. TAMU–CC is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).

     

    Construction is currently underway for a new music/theatre/dance complex, opening in Fall 2026, which will provide state-of-the-art performance and teaching spaces.

    Primary Responsibilities

    + Teach undergraduate courses in Lighting Design, Sound Design, Stagecraft, and related topics in the BA in Theatre curriculum.

    + Design lighting and/or sound for university mainstage productions.

    + Supervise and mentor student designers and technicians in all phases of production.

    + Contribute to curricular development, program assessment, and recruitment of Theatre majors and minors.

    + Maintain an active record of professional creative work and/or research consistent with promotion and tenure expectations.

    + Participate in departmental, school, and university service, including committee work and community engagement initiatives.

    Required Qualifications

    + Terminal degree in Theatre Design or related theatrical field by the time of appointment is required.

    + Demonstrated professional excellence in lighting and/or sound design.

    + Demonstrated proficiency in industry communication practices and network/software applications, including Nemetschek’s Vectorworks Spotlight, Figure 53’s Qlab, ETC/EOS applications, Dante Controller, wireless microphone system managers, Lightwrite, and lighting previsualization software.

    + Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + College-level teaching experience in Lighting, Sound, and Technical Theatre courses.

    + Experience with digital technologies for live performance, including projections, media servers, or interactive systems.

    + Dante certification (level 2 or above).

    + Yamaha audio console proficiency.

    + Evidence of collaborative creative activity in professional or academic settings.

    $6,888.89 Monthly ($62,000 annual)
