    Our Story

Unum Technology Centre in Carlow serves as a strategic software development and IT services centre supporting Unum, a leading provider of income protection in the US. Our team of IT professionals build solutions and critical business applications to digitally transform the way we do business.

We are seeking a highly adaptable and technically skilled Principal Solutions Engineer to join our team of Solution Architects. This strategic role demands a strong full-stack engineering background and the ability to lead solution design across a diverse technology landscape—from legacy applications to modern cloud-native platforms. You will play a key role in shaping technical strategy, driving innovation, and delivering scalable, integrated solutions that meet evolving business needs.

    Key Responsibilities

+ End-to-End Solution Architecture: Design and lead the implementation of robust, scalable solutions across front-end, back-end, legacy systems, and cloud platforms—including Salesforce and other enterprise technologies.

+ Technical Leadership: Provide guidance across multiple technology stacks, mentor engineering teams, and establish best practices for development, integration, and deployment.

+ Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Business, and Engineering teams to ensure technical solutions align with strategic objectives and deliver business value.

+ Delivery Oversight: Lead solution delivery from planning through deployment, ensuring quality, performance, and maintainability across systems.

+ Technology Agility: Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, pivoting across tools and frameworks as needed to meet business and technical requirements.

+ Legacy Modernization: Architect and guide the evolution of legacy systems, integrating them with modern platforms and cloud services to ensure continuity and innovation.

    Technical Skills

    + Proficiency in full-stack development (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, Java/.NET, Python).

+ Experience with Salesforce development (Apex, LWC, Visualforce) and integration via APIs.

+ Strong understanding of legacy architectures (e.g., monolithic applications, batch systems) and modernization strategies.

+ Expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), microservices, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

+ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and modern software delivery practices.

+ Experience with data modeling, ETL, and integration across diverse systems and data sources.

    Must Have

+ 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in full-stack development and enterprise solution design.

+ 4+ years in a technical leadership or architecture role, with proven success delivering complex, multi-platform solutions.

+ Demonstrated experience working across legacy systems and cloud-native environments.

    Preferred Qualifications

+ Salesforce certifications (e.g., Platform Developer II, Application Architect, System Architect).

+ Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect).

+ Experience with agile methodologies and leading cross-functional delivery teams.
