Job Title: Animal Care Technician
Job Description
We are seeking an Animal Care Lab Technician to support the health and welfare of research animals and maintain high standards of care within our animal facilities. This role involves monitoring animal health, administering treatments, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring facility cleanliness and compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
+ Monitor and assess animals for signs of illness, stress, or abnormal behavior
+ Administer medications and treatments under veterinary guidance; collect samples and provide procedural care
+ Maintain accurate records in compliance with institutional, local, and federal regulations
+ Provide daily husbandry and specialized care for animal colonies
+ Sanitize and decontaminate animal rooms and equipment, including BL2-level areas
+ Advise research staff on animal handling, restraint, and care procedures
+ Train staff on sanitation protocols and animal care techniques
+ Maintain and rotate equipment in facility washing centers
+ Operate and troubleshoot animal care processing equipment
+ Manage inventory of supplies and materials
+ Transport animals and materials between facilities using proper handling protocols
+ Perform additional duties as assigned
Essential Skills
+ Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and detailed protocols
+ Recognize signs of health, illness, and distress in animals
+ Read and interpret written instructions, forms, and notes
+ Basic computer skills and email monitoring
Qualifications
+ High school diploma and four years of work experience (two years in a related field), or Associate’s Degree with two years of related experience
+ ALAT certification (American Association of Laboratory Animal Science) preferred
+ Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
Work Environment
+ Weekend shifts required; no evening hours
+ Includes a 12-week training/probation period with structured onboarding and progress tracking
+ Training schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
+ Post-training schedule: Friday–Tuesday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM or 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (includes 10% weekend shift differential)
+ Staff must work designated holidays and recess days; straight pay plus floating holiday time for hours worked
+ Attendance is essential, including during inclement weather and holidays
+ PPE includes gloves and gown; parking fees apply

This is a Permanent position based out of New Haven, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $60000.00/yr.
