You'll be hands-on with animal care, monitoring health and behavior, administering treatments, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety. You'll also be a go-to expert for researchers and staff, helping ensure humane and effective animal handling across the facility.
What You’ll Do
+ Monitor animal health: Spot signs of illness, stress, or behavioral changes with a keen eye and compassionate care.
+ Deliver specialized care: Administer treatments, collect samples, and support animals before and after procedures.
+ Keep meticulous records: Ensure compliance with institutional and federal standards.
+ Provide husbandry services: Feed, clean, and care for animals in diverse colonies.
+ Maintain safe environments: Sanitize and decontaminate rooms and equipment in BL2-level areas.
+ Be a resource: Train staff and advise researchers on best practices in animal handling and care.
+ Operate and troubleshoot equipment: Keep our washing centers running smoothly.
+ Support logistics: Safely transport animals and materials between locations.
What You Bring
+ A strong sense of responsibility and empathy for animals.
+ Ability to follow detailed protocols and recognize health indicators.
+ Comfort with both simple and complex documentation.
+ Basic computer skills and email proficiency.
+ Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual tasks.
Qualifications
+ High school diploma with 4 years of experience (2 in a related field), or Associate’s Degree with 2 years of related experience.
+ ALAT certification (preferred but not required).
+ Strong manual dexterity and a commitment to safety.
Work Environment & Schedule
+ Training period: 12 weeks, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM.
+ Post-training schedule: Friday–Tuesday, 7:00–3:00 or 8:00–4:00, with a 10% weekend shift differential.
+ Essential role: Must report during holidays and inclement weather.
+ PPE required: Gloves and gown provided.
+ Parking: Staff pays for parking.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Haven, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $60000.00/yr.
