Job Summary
Health Physicist I
In this developmental level role, learns to provide technical support to nuclear station's radiation protection programs, including radiological protection and ALARA, through analysis and evaluation of programs, procedures and practices. Develops ability to review and evaluate radioactive waste management practices for efficiency and compliance with regulatory procedures. Participates in developing, maintaining and performing Company Five-Year Exposure Reduction Plan activities and revisions. Learns to write technical reports and to develop and review procedures for technical content. Develops ability to perform technical evaluation and to provide guidance to stations and corporate ALARA Program, radiological protection staff, and management. Researches and reports on action items dealing with broad to specific health physics topics, assigned by supervisor. Analyzes monthly performance measurements and prepares variance explanations.
Health Physicist II
Provide technical support in developing and implementing radiological protection, effluent and environmental monitoring, radiological waste management and emergency planning programs and procedures. Review and recommend revisions to health physics procedures and radiological protection programs to ensure regulatory compliance. Perform instrumentation evaluations and operating parameter analyses. Provide radiological solutions for ALARA concerns. Maintain HIS-20 and administer associated contracts. Review and evaluate elements of emergency preparedness program related to radiological protection functions.
Health Physicist III
Provide independent assessment on corporate and station performance in radiological protection programs and activities. Provide technical evaluation of programs and offer solutions and/or recommendations for compliance or new technology concept implementation. Perform on-site review of radiological work practices, radiological controls program and radiation worker training at nuclear power stations. Provide technical support in procedure development, Technical Specifications and UFSAR updates, licensing correspondence and audit responses. Review and evaluate new regulatory requirements and industry technology concerning radiological protection.

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Health Physicist I
1+ years of directly related experience. (In lieu of preferred related Bachelor's degree, may substitute related Associate's degree and 2+ years of directly related experience or High School diploma/GED and 4+ years of directly related experience that demonstrates knowledge of relevant fundamental theories, principles and concepts.)
Understanding of methods and means of detecting and quantifying radiation; knowledge of the methods of determining dose rates. Ability to intelligently inform others in matters pertaining to the Radiological Protection Program. Knowledge of computer applications. Basic knowledge of company operations.
Health Physicist II
2 + years of directly related experience. (In lieu of preferred related Bachelor's degree, may substitute related Associate's degree and 4+ years of directly related experience or High School diploma/GED and 6+ years of directly related experience that demonstrates knowledge of relevant fundamental theories, principles and concepts.)
Knowledge of methods and means of detecting and quantifying radiation; knowledge of the methods of determining dose rates. Ability to intelligently inform others in matters pertaining to the Radiological Protection Program. Knowledge of computer applications. Basic knowledge of company operations. Strong analytical and deductive reasoning skills. Report and technical writing skills. Instrumentation, mathematical and data trending skills.
Health Physicist III
5+ years of directly related experience. (In lieu of preferred related Bachelor's degree, may substitute related Associate's degree and 7+ years of directly related experience or High School diploma/GED and 9+ years of directly related experience that demonstrates knowledge of relevant fundamental theories, principles and concepts.)
Thorough knowledge of methods and means of detecting and quantifying radiation; thorough knowledge of the methods of determining dose rates. Ability to intelligently inform others in matters pertaining to the Radiological Protection Program. Expert knowledge of radiological control practices. Demonstrated proficiency to evaluate radiological work practices, controls program and radiation worker training to ensure control of station dose. In-depth knowledge of computer applications. Basic knowledge of company operations. Demonstrated skills in analytical and deductive reasoning, good communication, report and technical writing, instrumentation, mathematical and data trending. Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems; to conduct site inspections or walkdowns; to lead team.
Education Requirements
Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Bachelor
Preferred Discipline(s): Engineering, Science, Radiation Science
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
