The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires (https://file.lacounty.gov/SDSInter/bos/supdocs/199375.pdf) , including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild. The Los Angeles County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Carpenter Supervisor vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Carpenter Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
+ Directs, supervises and inspects the work of carpenters, apprentices and helpers in new construction, alteration, and repair work.
+ Plans carpentry projects and coordinates activities with other crafts and operating units.
+ Lays out jobs and estimates labor and material requirements.
+ Determines work methods and types of materials to be used.
+ Advises superiors concerning specifications for carpentry work in construction and alteration projects performed under contract.
+ Ensures that code requirements and safety regulations and safe work practices are observed.
+ Orders and maintains a stock of materials and supplies.
+ Supervises the maintenance of tools and equipment.
+ Supervises the maintenance of work records.
+ Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites as needed.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Three years' journey-level* experience in carpentry work on buildings.
You MUST meet the above requirement(s) in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class 3 – Moderate:This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :
*Journey-level experience is defined as carpentry work such as rough and finish carpentry on buildings and does milling, woodturning, and pattern work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications or verbal instruction. Positions are also responsible for constructing scaffolding, building forms, layering floors, and erecting framing. These positions require incumbents to exercise a knowledge of common practices, tools, terminology, and accident prevention precautions of the trade and the ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral instructions.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
One year experience in a supervisory capacity in carpentry work.
No out of class will be accepted.

During your initial work period, the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
