Position description
The Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology the University of California, Los Angeles, seeks applicants for an Assistant Project Scientist position.
Salary range : The posted UC salary scales (https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2025-26-academic-salary-scales.html) set the salary range for this position. See Table 37B: Represented Project Scientists Series, Fiscal Year
Duties : Successful candidates will be expected to publish results in scientific journals and present results at national and international meetings.
Qualifications : The candidate must hold a PhD in Neuroscience or a related field and have training in the field of fly genetics, behavior, live calcium imaging, optogenetics, and biostatistics. The candidate must have at least three years of research experience beyond the PhD, with demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-level research on neuroscience. Familiarity with fly crossing and maintenance, in vivo and ex vivo brain dissections, neuropharmacology, scRNA-seq, biochemistry and molecular biology is strongly desired. Expertise with neuroscience techniques including genetic binary expression systems, immunohistochemistry and histology, fluorescence microscopy, behavioral tracking, electronic control of visual stimuli, physiological recordings, digital synaptic connectome analysis in the fruit fly model system, and computer programming proficiency in R, MATLAB, and Python are required.
Successful candidates will be expected to work closely with PI and collaborators to accomplish research objectives in milestone driven sponsored research projects. The candidate is required to publish results in scientific journals and present results at national and international meetings. Good verbal and written communication skills are required, along with project management skills. The candidate should be highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and interested in working in a collaborative, inclusive, and diverse environment. The candidate will also provide support and training to junior researchers.
