PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
+ SAP’s Export Control Innovation Team drives forward‑looking solutions to ensure SAP’s compliance with global export control and sanctions laws. We anticipate and address emerging risks by combining deep regulatory expertise with advanced data analytics and innovative technologies, including AI.
+ SAP Export Control sits within a global strategic function reporting to the SAP Executive Board, working closely with legal and compliance teams, security, product engineering, logistics, and operations.
+ In addition to the Innovation Team, SAP Export Control includes the:
+ Standardization, Simplification and Automation (SSA) Team responsible for adopting new processes across the organization, simplifying and automating manual processes and developing internal controls;
+ Shared Service Center (SSC) Team responsible for daily operations support; and
+ Export Control Legal Team that supports the Innovation, SSA and SSC teams, as well as other functions at SAP, with legal advice and with the implementation of new or changing regulatory requirements.
+ SAP Export Control is based at SAP’s headquarters in Germany, with employees worldwide.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASK
We are seeking an Export Control Expert to help drive the team’s goals and serve as a key catalyst for strategic innovation projects.
In this high‑impact role, you will creatively apply expert knowledge of export control and sanctions laws and business processes to design and improve tools and workflows in an agile and rapidly evolving risk environment. You will leverage data to identify emerging compliance risks, generate actionable insights, and collaborate across SAP (including Office of Ethics & Compliance, IT, and Security) to strengthen controls and enable business growth.
Key responsibilities include:
• Develop and implement export control and sanctions compliance tools and processes across SAP
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement of export control and sanctions compliance systems and controls
• Enhance KYC procedures and proactively monitor data trends and anomalies
• Support early detection, escalation, and incident handling for emerging risks
• Apply data and predictive analytics to anticipate export control and sanctions compliance challenges
• Support IT implementations and enhancements to export control and sanctions tooling
• Foster strong cross‑functional relationships and strengthen SAP’s global export control and sanctions compliance community
• Lead and support enablement, communication, and training activities
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Education and Qualification
+ University degree; additional technical credentials (data analytics, IT systems, computer science, statistics) are a strong plus.
+ Fluent written and spoken English; other languages are an advantage.
Required skills
+ Rich expertise in export control and sanctions regulations (e.g., OFAC, EAR) with a strong learning mindset. Deep understanding of related business processes.
+ Proven project management experience.
+ Experience analyzing multi‑source export control and sanctions compliance-relevant data to detect trends and risks. Experience conducting root cause analysis.
+ Familiarity with emerging compliance technologies and technology‑enabled approaches to export control and sanctions compliance.
+ Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex processes, policies, and advice to non-experts.
+ Assertive and convincing personality, high level of commitment and flexibility.
+ Proven success working with multinational, cross‑functional teams.
+ Strong judgment, decisiveness, and ability to operate under time pressure.
+ Ability to build trusted partnerships with team members, peers, internal clients, and external customers.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum 10 years of experience in export controls or sanctions compliance - ideally within a global organization, specialized consultancy, or equivalent environment. Experience in cloud businesses is a plus.

**Compensation Range Transparency** : SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 142,500 - 327,100 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
