Corteva Agriscience™ has an exciting opportunity in the Predictive Safety Center (PSC) within Crop Protection Regulatory Sciences for an **Analytical Scientist Post Doc** in analytical chemistry. The candidate will develop and execute analytical methods mainly using GC/MS to support the development and registration of new active ingredients and agricultural products. This position is based in Indianapolis, IN.
What You’ll Do:
+ Develop and execute analytical methods, primarily using GC/MS, to support the detection and identification of volatile and semi-volatile pesticide metabolites in environmental matrices.
+ Design and perform experiments to explore the scope and limitations of GC/MS for metabolite analysis, including sensitivity, robustness, and types of metabolites detected.
+ Investigate and implement multiple sample introduction methods (e.g., liquid injection, headspace, thermal desorption, SPME, twister) to enhance metabolite coverage.
+ Collaborate with project teams and other disciplines in PSC to provide analytical chemistry solutions, including experimental design, execution, and data interpretation.
+ Develop and apply strategies for data interpretation using isotope-filtering features of instrument software or third-party software tools.
+ Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation in collaboration with support teams.
+ Communicate results effectively to project teams; Write protocols, methods, and technical reports; provide scientific interpretation of results with minimal guidance.
+ Publish non-propriety results in peer reviewed journals upon approval.
What Skills You Need:
Required Education & Experience
+ Current PhD candidate or recent PhD graduate in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical science, or related areas.
+ Experience with gas chromatography with various detection methods (i.e. GC/FID, GC/MS), techniques for small molecules in complex biological or environmental matrices.
+ Experience with sample preparation, derivatization, and cleanup.
+ Instrumentation expertise and troubleshooting skills.
+ Excellent problem-solving and time management skills; ability to plan and execute projects with high productivity.
+ Demonstrated flexibility and ability to prioritize projects.
+ Strong technical reporting, documentation, and presentation skills.
Other Skills & Abilities
+ Experience with experimental design and implementation, and knowledge of statistical analysis and reporting are desired.
+ Experience in other analytical techniques (e.g., LC/MS, UPLC/MS-MS) is desired but not required.
+ Good background in organic chemistry or biochemistry is desired but not required.
+ Ability to adapt and apply disruptive technologies and new workflows to analytical challenges.
+ Interest in contributing to regulatory science studies and environmental safety assessments.
