    Job Description

    The NYC Department of Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. We facilitate compliant development with integrity, efficiency and professionalism.     Under the direction of the Tenant Advocate, the Tenant Liaison will serve as a resource to tenants affected by work in occupied multiple dwellings.

    The Tenant Liaison is responsible for the following:

    - Formalize relationships with advocacy organizations representing tenants affected by construction work in occupied multiple dwellings.

     

    - Work with Department staff, the Mayor's Office, City agencies, elected officials and other external stakeholders to address issues concerning construction work in occupied multiple dwellings.

     

    - Respond to comments, questions, correspondence and complaints concerning construction in occupied multiple dwellings.

     

    - Work with tenants affected by construction work in occupied multiple dwellings to ensure they know their rights during such construction work, including that they are aware of any applicable Tenant Protection Plan and the protections therein.

     

    - Engage with external stakeholders to promote awareness of the Office and develop outreach programming.

     

    - Monitor Tenant Protection Plans (TPPs) for compliance.

     

    - Identify sites that fail to comply with Tenant Protection Plans (TPPs) for inspection referrals and enforcement actions. Research and identify property portfolios, where building owners and/or contractors routinely fail to comply with TPPs, building codes and safe work practices.

     

    - Track the work conducted by the Office through the preparation of quarterly reports on the Office's activities.

     

    - Refer matters that reside outside the jurisdiction of the Office to the appropriate entity for response.

     

    - Assist with other tasks and special projects at the behest of the Executive Director.

    COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058

    Qualifications

    1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

    2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

    3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
