Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the general supervision of the Director of Laboratory Services, the Lead Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples and obtaining other specimens for ordered diagnostic studies. Performs the leadership role in the phlebotomy area.
What you will do in this role:
+ Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills in the collection of laboratory samples and leadership duties.
+ I am knowledgeable of computer functions and can add or cancel a test, receive specimens, print labels etc. Can find specimen requirements or send information in the system.
+ Maintains adequate inventory and puts away supplies.
+ Proficient in techniques for obtaining blood from hard to stick patients, newborn babies and obtaining samples with special requirements
+ Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, personnel, and other personnel in the hospital to fulfill position responsibilities.
+ Monitor the tube system, Answering the phone calls
+ Responsible for assigning phlebotomists to patient drawings.
+ Making sure each phlebotomist carries the cord less phone.
+ Take administrative leadership role unable to flex down during the low census.
+ Assign lunch and breaks and make sure that they are observed.
+ Reconcile and communicate shift change issues such as pending collections and all cordless phones are placed on the charger.
+ Checking and reconciling pending every two hours. Check preview and create every hour.
+ Completes other activities assigned.
+ Adheres to the Customer Services Principles of West Houston Medical Center.
What qualifications you will need:
+ Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
