Responsibilities
The Supervisor - Human Resources (Benefits) is an integral member of the benefits leadership team who is responsible for the overall management, coordination and performance of Benefits Specialist. The Benefits Supervisor is responsible for managing and monitoring daily benefit programs in accordance with institutional initiatives and in conjunction with HR leadership. Accountable for managing and meeting workforce optimization and employee productivity. Responsible for hiring, evaluating, managing and developing employees. Responsible for quality and customer service expectations performed by Benefits Specialist. Ensures the appropriate onboarding and training process is applied to new hires which include developing appropriate training plans with reinforcement of skills for long-term employees. Identifies and analyzes department improvement ideas and implements changes. The Benefits Supervisor must have the ability to work in an environment with changing priorities and multiple concurrent tasks while maintaining a high level of customer service. May be accountable for staff in multiple locations including onsite and teleworking staff. Proactively manages relationships by collaborating with leadership and other HR colleagues. **Assists in the development and administration of one or more benefit programs. Be able to cross-function or cross-train among the benefits area. Coordinates the administration of employee benefit programs such as basic and major medical coverage, dental insurance, group life insurance, pension plans, and other benefits. Oversees administration of programs and maintenance of required records.** Consults with and advises employees on eligibility, provisions, and other matters related to benefits. Develops administrative procedures to monitor and reduce costs and improve delivery of programs. Assists in the preparation of employee benefits booklets and other employee benefit communications. Advises employees on interpretation of plan provisions and conducts preretirement counseling.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Human Resources or related degree and three to five years of benefits administration experience. Prefer master’s degree and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) with strong leadership, team building and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines. Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with project management with a proven ability to employ a systematic structured approach to goal accomplishment and to identify risks and opportunities and develops contingency strategies. Ability to analyze and project financial data. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment. Ability to work independently and interact collaboratively as part of a team.
