    Department: CNC Machining

     

    Reports To: Production Manager

     

    FLSA Status: Hourly / Non-Exempt

    SUMMARY

    Regularly and productively sets up, operates, and performs routine maintenance of various machines and machine tools including but not limited to CNC lathes or milling centers and/or manual lathes, mills, drills and punch presses with little, if any, supervision. Performs progressive machining operations for products or equipment, holding close tolerances or requirements. Performs other machine operating shapers, grinders and centerless grinders, planers, deburring equipment, etc.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: which may include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.

     

    + Responsible for operating CNC lathes and milling centers while cognizant of tools, wear, accuracy and requirements. Varies speeds and feeds to adjust to tool wear, best efficiency, and product quality requirements. Interfaces with CNC programmer to develop or improve the machine programs. Manual machines parts, tooling, fixtures and holders as required . Ability to process, modifies and corrects when possible, reworks defects and rejects.

    + Detects tool wear and changes tools accurately and efficiently on assigned machine tools. Reads and comprehends blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Utilizes micrometers, calipers, scales, gauges, and other testing equipment. Adjusts and/or revises tools, fixtures, and programs in order to improve manufacturing process. While operating tools, fixtures, and programs in order to improve manufacturing process. While operating machinery, may wrench-tighten tools, load and unload products into and out of machines. Machines and deburrs components to blueprint tolerances and quality levels. Machines tooling, fixtures, and holders. Fits and assembles where necessary.

    + Completes all necessary paperwork and manufacturing control documents for processing as required. Processes, modifies, and/or corrects when possible, and reworks any defects or rejects. Self-inspects and releases own finished work. Actively reviews work methods to identify problems and suggests workable solutions.

    + Understands and performs preventive maintenance work including machine inspection, adjustments, and repair of existing parts where needed, or replacements as recommended by machine manufacturer. Flexible and capable of assisting in other areas and performing other tasks as assigned by supervision.

    + Performs other miscellaneous duties related to, but not limited to, the above job duties as requested by supervision, i.e. moving materials to and from work areas, recording quantity or quality reports and other information as required. Maintains flow of production in the department as required by schedule and material supply. Conforms to engineering specifications, safety, production, and quality standards. Keeps facilities and work area clean and orderly exercising care in their maintenance.

    EQUIPMENT:

    + Safety equipment as designated by supervision. Production and inspection equipment such as, but not restrictive to, precision measuring instruments like micrometer, caliper, scales, verniers, gauges, hand tools, and other equipment as designated by supervision.

    EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:

    + Must have 5+ years' CNC and/or manual machining experience.

    + Skill sets required include previous education and experience with the ability to competently set up and operate manual machines, CNC lathes and milling centers, comprehend blueprints, use basic shop math (decimals, fractions, simple algebra, and basic trig), and calculator.

    + This position must meet "US Person" Export Control Requirements as defined by 22 CFR 120.62 - "US Person means a person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)." Or a successful foreign person candidate must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations."
