Summary of Key Responsibilities:
The Lead Radiation Therapist functions as an integral member of the radiation oncology team. The Lead Radiation Therapist is responsible for accurately delivering the prescribed course of treatment to each patient and closely monitoring and reporting any discrepancies in the patient set up. Lead Radiation Therapist is a role model in demonstrating clinical assessment, interpretive and treatment delivery skills. Demonstrates leadership by overseeing radiation therapists in department and is responsible for ensuring competency of radiation therapy team through training. Lead Radiation Therapist is responsible for facilitating essential communication to department manager regarding operational issues. Participates in specialty areas such as simulation procedures, IMRT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT, TBI, and HDR treatments. Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform all aspects of treatment delivery as well as overseeing the correct and appropriate use of the electronic medical record. Lead radiation therapist will work with manager to conduct regularly scheduled technical meetings no less than once per quarter as well as participating in department quality assurance initiatives. Performs and fulfills other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the performance of treatment, assessment, and implementation of the prescribed treatment plan.
• Displays professional conduct essential to the well-being of the radiation oncology patient.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the patient population of the department.
• Recognizes changes in the patient's status/condition and reports to appropriate personnel.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and electronic communication skills in order to maintain an accurate Electronic Medical Record.
• Utilizes treatment accessories to accurately reproduce the radiation treatment.
• Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology to include simulation and treatment processes to ensure optimal radiation treatment delivery.
• Ensures that all QA procedures are complete and within tolerances before proceeding with patient treatment as outlined in department policies and procedures (any abnormalities/inconsistencies should be reported to the proper authority).
• Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and therapy team to construct immobilization devices or custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy.
• Utilizes sophisticated imaging equipment for precise tumor localization.
• Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
• Has working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices as defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other regulatory agencies.

• Works collaboratively with the radiation oncology team to develop an efficient and positive work environment that promotes exceptional patient care.
• Supports departmental goals.
• Must maintain a current ARRT certification, licensure, and complete any additional training required by Sarah Cannon.
• Adheres to the Mission, Vision, and Values as set by Sarah Cannon.
Physical & Mental Demands and Working Conditions:

• Frequently lifts, reaches or transfers 30 pound objects from one level to another (i.e. lead block).
• Occasionally transfers a patient from a hospital bed to the treatment table, or pushes a patient who lies on a cart or sits in a wheelchair so that it moves away or stays in front of you.
• Constantly walks about on foot, stands, bends, and reaches in any direction.
• Severe visual impairments should be correctable.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
• Required: Associate Degree
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: (Appropriate Education may be substituded for partial experience) · Required: Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy program and certified by the ARRT in Radiation within 6 months of employment. · Preferred: 3 years or more
Certification or License:
• ARRT certification in radiation therapy
• Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• State licensure (if applicable)
