Job Summary and Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:

The Lead Phlebotomist oversees the blood collection / specimen receiving processes of the Laboratory on assigned shift.Oversees or manages workflow at the specimen receiving table, and dispatch of phlebotomists as needed throughout the facility. Assist the Phlebotomy Supervisor with management of phlebotomy staff as needed.

II.Qualifications:

+ Completion of a Certified Phlebotomy Course (strongly preferred)

+ Demonstrated experience with each of the required areas of expertise in section III below (required).

+ Shows leadership qualities during performance of phlebotomy duties

+ Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with all staff, patients, patientfamiliesand vendors.

+ Very Good phlebotomy,computer, and communication skills.

III.General Essential Functions:

+ Knowledge of physiology and function of the venous system of the human body, and collection techniques used to draw blood from patients.

+ Maintains mastery levelover allcollectionsprocedures;assistPhlebotomySupervisorto ensureall personnel assigned to department areproperly trainedfor its tasks.

+ Performs specimen collection per policy and procedure.

+ Engages in team planning withSupervisorand other Lead Staff to solve departmental challenges/quality issues.

+ Assistsinoverseeingall activities in the collections department throughout the Campus. Assists Phlebotomy Supervisor in ensuring staffing is adequate and all collections have been performed in a timely manner.

+ Assists Phlebotomy Supervisor or Lab QA Staff to investigate specimen collection / processing quality issues.

+ Assists with phlebotomy student training.

+ Helps effectively implement new procedures and processes in the phlebotomy department.

+ Assists in new employee orientation / training as assignee.
