Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Drafter/Designer to join our engineering team focused on large Navy and Coast Guard ship engines. This role requires an individual proficient in AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks, with a strong background in marine engine design and documentation. Your primary responsibilities will involve editing and updating existing drawings as well as converting a variety of technical documents and legacy drawings into standardized AutoCAD formats.

Key Responsibilities:

Edit, revise, and update existing 2D technical drawings and documentation related to large marine engines, propulsion systems, and associated mechanical components.

Convert legacy documents and hand-drawn sketches or PDFs into professional-quality AutoCAD 2D drawings.

Utilize SolidWorks to reference and, where necessary, create supporting 3D models, assemblies, and component views.

Interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and technical manuals to ensure drawing accuracy and compliance with naval standards.

Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and production staff to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.

Maintain detailed records of drawing revisions, document control, and change management logs.

Ensure all drawings and designs adhere to strict Navy, Coast Guard, and company quality standards.

Participate in technical meetings and provide support for design reviews and production troubleshooting

Skills and Requirements

Minimum 5 years of recent, hands-on drafting/design experience with AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks in a marine, naval, heavy industrial, or mechanical engineering environment.

Proven experience working with large, complex mechanical systems—preferably naval ship engines or comparable heavy equipment.

Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and edit engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Strong skills in converting physical or outdated digital drawings into up-to-date AutoCAD files.

Familiarity with relevant Navy and Coast Guard technical specifications and documentation standards is highly desirable.

Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and documentation abilities.

Effective communication and teamwork skills. Experience working directly on shipyard or defense projects.

Knowledge of configuration management and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Marine Engineering, or related field.
