    Job Summary

    The Senior Director, Physician Coding & Documentation is responsible for overseeing all Professional Fee Coding and Documentation services, including clinician education on compliant coding and documentation practices. This role involves managing a team of professionals to provide coding services and coordinating educational and training programs for clinicians, ensuring compliance with regulations. The Senior Director also develops and distributes materials to support professional fee coding and documentation education for providers, clinicians, CHS Corporate staff, and local CHS management.

     

    The is an On-site position in Franklin, TN.

    Essential Functions

    + Directs the Professional Fee Coding and Documentation department activities related to department budget, compliant professional fee coding, documentation education and training activities to achieve compliance with regulations to all appropriate personnel, including CHS Corporate staff, clinicians, coders and local CHS management. Develops, implements coding policies, productivity and performance measures for the team and ensures the appropriate dissemination and communication of all regulations, policy and guidelines changes to affected personnel.

    + Works with department management and other staff to ensure effective and appropriate goals, incentives, and supervision are in place. Supervises direct reports, appropriately delegating, articulating and enforcing standards of quality and productivity. Performs performance evaluations, counsels employees in performance improvement, conflict resolution and disciplinary actions while developing achievable and measurable results and action plans ensuring assigned projects are completed in a timely manner. Creates an environment that encourages diverse opinion, recognizes differences, and incorporates into process and services while creating a culture and systems for recognizing and rewarding staff.

    + Manages the complex interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships to assure collaboration and effective/efficient operations with Coding, Compliance, Quality, Operations and Revenue Cycle. Serves as a resource and liaison in the department for coding related topics, issues and questions. Works to ensure operational functions are aligned with the organization's strategic goals. Communicates opinions and ideas in a nonthreatening and nonjudgmental manner.

    + Ensures that coding vendors and other contracted entities understand and agree to adhere to CHS's policies and compliance plan. Reviews and prepares disbursement for accounts payable, and payroll for the department. Approves time sheets for all team members.

    + Maintains strict confidentiality of provider information, patient data as well as financial and billing data. Reports noncompliance issues detected through auditing and monitoring Compliance. Complies with all policies and procedures of the Corporate Compliance Program.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    + Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

    + Complies with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management or related field required

    + More than 10 years working in professional fee coding and documentation for physician offices and/or clinics required

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Knowledge of medical terminology.

    + Strong communication and organizational skills.

    + Must possess leadership skills

    + High degree of accuracy.

    + Ability to hire, teach and mentor.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + CCS-Certified Coding Specialist CPC, CCS-P, RHIT or other nationally recognized professional fee certification required
