Description
As an airline, safety is our most important principle. And our Corporate Safety team is responsible for making sure safety is top of mind in every action we take. From conducting flight safety investigations and educating pilots on potential safety threats to implementing medical programs and helping prevent employee injuries, our team is instrumental in running a safe and successful airline for our customers and employees.
Job overview and responsibilities
The Regulatory Compliance and Dangerous Goods Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of all Regulatory Compliance programs at United. The Manager ensures United proactively manages timely reporting and provisioning of information to regulatory authorities to avoid compliance actions and fines through strong cross-divisional partnerships, standardized structures and processes and clearly established roles and responsibilities.
This role also supports maintenance of the corporate Dangerous Goods Program, ensuring components of division and station safety and compliance programs function well and are efficient in capturing, addressing and monitoring performance. This position is the division primary liaison for safety and compliance issues with internal and external stakeholders and regulators as required.
This role acts as the primary interface with FAA and other regulatory bodies for all regulatory compliance programs and requirements and supports the divisions as subject matter experts in the space.
+ **Regulatory Compliance:**
+ Facilitates United’s end-to-end Voluntary Disclosure program components to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and timelines
+ Engages with the divisions and supports corrective action in areas found not to conform with company policy / procedure requirements
+ Supports all Corrective Action Notices (CAN), Safety Assurance Letters (SAS), Requests for Information (RFI), and other requests from regulatory authorities
+ Serves as a primary point of contact for FAA around regulatory reporting and information needs
+ Supports delivery of written reports outlining assessments, root cause and comprehensive fixes to appropriate regulatory authorities
+ Collaborates to develop and administer strategies to ensure Dangerous Goods are transported safely
+ Monitors and assesses corrective action commitments and implementation through to completion
+ **Dangerous Goods Program:**
+ Collaborates to develop and administer strategies to ensure Dangerous Goods are transported safely and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards
+ Supports the design, development and implementation of Dangerous Goods related policies, business processes and procedures across the enterprise
+ Provides expertise to internal client organizations in coordination with divisional DG representatives to ensure Dangerous Goods regulations and standards are accurately interpreted and applied to their policies in support of critical operational and business imperatives
+ Provides expertise to support audit and evaluation tools and assists in administration of the Dangerous Goods Management Program
+ Monitors, tracks and analyzes performance indicator data to identify quality improvement opportunities and advocates for corrective action with internal and external stakeholders
+ Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with DG support staff and subject matter experts within Airport Operations and Cargo, Flight Operations, Dispatch, Inflight and Tech Ops Divisions, and affiliated support organizations to improve
+ Dangerous Goods safety and compliance performance
+ Works with operating divisions and their training organizations to identify employee training needs pertaining to Dangerous Goods
+ Ensures the accuracy and relevance of training programs and maintains FAA approval under Operations Specification A055
+ Represents United’s interests before US and international regulatory authorities and industry associations such as IATA-Dangerous Goods Board, COSTHA (Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles) and ATA
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
+ Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in Technical, safety, or aviation related discipline or equivalent level of work experience
+ Certification in quality or safety or 2 years of safety experience
+ 2 years’ experience with a major passenger, cargo, or regional carrier
+ Must be able to collaborate, develop relationships and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders while also corresponding with regulators when required
+ Must exhibit ability and initiative while also having the skill set to work independently and multitask
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
+ Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
+ Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
+ Master's degree
+ IATA, DOT DG Specialist; certified as a Dangerous Goods Specialist by the FAA
+ 2 years of operational experience in working with pre-transportation and transportation related regulatory compliance and/or dangerous goods processes and functions
+ Working knowledge of ICAO, IATA, 14CFR, and 49CFR hazardous materials regulations
The base pay range for this role is $99,750.00 to $129,924.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
