    Job Summary

    The Outpatient Infusion Center Manager provides leadership and oversight for hospital-based infusion pharmacy services, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant preparation and delivery of sterile products for both inpatient and outpatient infusion patients. This role integrates clinical expertise, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency to support high-quality patient care and optimize medication use across the infusion program.

     

    Core Job Responsibilities

     

    + Direct daily operations of the hospital infusion pharmacy, including sterile compounding, drug procurement, inventory management, and technician workflow.

    + Ensure compliance with USP <797>, USP <800>, Joint Commission, NYS Board of Pharmacy, and other applicable hospital and regulatory standards.

    + Supervise and evaluate infusion pharmacists and technicians; provide training, competency assessment, and performance feedback.

    + Collaborate with nursing, medical oncology, and hospital administration to align infusion services with institutional goals, clinical pathways, and patient safety initiatives.

    + Oversee hazardous drug handling, environmental monitoring, and cleanroom quality assurance programs.

    + Maintain drug utilization, waste, and cost metrics; develop strategies for formulary management, contract optimization, and cost containment.

    + Coordinate with billing and revenue integrity teams to ensure accurate charge capture and compliance with payer documentation and infusion coding requirements.

    + Participate in multidisciplinary committees (e.g., P&T, Oncology, Safety, Quality Improvement) and lead process improvement initiatives related to infusion services.

    + Support and implement new infusion therapies, technologies, and automation systems.

    + Serve as a clinical and operational resource for nursing, providers, and staff regarding drug stability, compatibility, and administration guidelines.

    + Monitor pharmacy performance metrics and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, productivity, and customer service.

    + Collaborate with healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses, and other clinicians, to optimize medication therapy and patient outcomes.

    + Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and accreditation standards, including HIPAA privacy requirements and controlled substance regulations.

    + Participate in budget planning and financial management activities, including revenue generation, cost control, and reimbursement optimization.

    + Evaluate and recommend improvements to pharmacy technology systems, software, and automation to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.

    + Develop and implement staff training programs and continuing education initiatives to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

    + In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, make decisions or recommendations related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc. Resolve staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.

    + Perform related duties as assigned.

     

    Education/Experience Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS:

    + Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy; PharmD, or Rph.

    + Licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of New York.

    + Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospital or infusion pharmacy practice.

    PREFERRED:

    + Advanced degree (e.g., Master of Business Administration, Master of Healthcare Administration)

    + Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, including prescription processing, medication dispensing, and medication therapy management.

     

    Licensure/Certification Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS:

    + Active pharmacist licensure in the state of NY, in good standing.
