    Finance Budget Director

    POSITION DETAILS

    As a key member of the finance management team, the Finance Budget Director will oversee the college’s budgeting and financial planning responsibilities. The role reports to the Assistant Vice President of Budget and Finance and will be called to present to the college’s Operational Leadership Teams. In addition, the Finance Budget Director may serve on various committees. The individual will be a visionary, incorporating innovative practices into strategies and formulating financial operating plans while collaborating with other college finance staff. In addition, the role requires resource allocation, execution, and performance measurement. The Finance Budget Director will work with the College’s executives and department administrators, faculty, staff, and external constituents by employing industry best practices and having a data-driven mindset. This position provides regular financial management updates to the executive and director levels.

     

    The Director will also assist with the execution of programs and policies and will contribute to the development of a long-range vision for the campus. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

     

    •Oversee all aspects of the financial plans and budgeting processes for multiple funding sources for the college.

    •Develop and manage financial reporting processes and compliance activities to ensure accurate, timely reporting and fiscal compliance.

    •Develop a planning process that incorporates all sources of funds and aligns resources with the college’s strategic plan.

    •Develop various analyses to assist with financial planning and reporting.

    •Provide strategic financial guidance for decision making related to resource allocations and operational planning.

    •Develop a master staffing plan grounded in needs analysis and empirical benchmarks.

    •Serve as a liaison between Queens College and CUNY Central for financial management matters.

    •Implement technology-based solutions and automated business processes to facilitate financial planning, decision making, and reporting.

    •Facilitate the successful implementation of CUNYWORK/Workday and related tools to improve budget control and financial planning.

    •Manage professional staff responsible for budget transactions, payroll reconciliation, and position management.

    •Perform additional duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    •Budgeting experience in Higher Education.

    •Master’s degree in finance or related field

    •Experience with PeopleSoft financial systems.

    •Experience in using data for decision-making.

    •Experience with Workday.

    CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

    Directs the budgeting function of a College or major program as well as related accounting operations.

     

    - Formulates, prepares and oversees financial plans and budgeting processes

     

    - Manages all financial reporting and compliance activities, including preparation of financial statements, statistical reports, and funding determinations

     

    - Liaisons with internal and external financial auditors as well as various College, University and governmental representatives

     

    - Oversees analytical reporting and provides strategic financial guidance to support decisions regarding resource allocations and operational planning

     

    - Manages professional staff responsible for budget projections, allocations and transactions

     

    - Performs related duties as assigned.

    Salary commensurate with education and experience ($99,279 - $113,982).
