Job Description
Our client is a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced unmanned systems and aerospace vehicles. As a Structural Design Engineer, this person will be responsible for providing conceptual and detail designs of primary and secondary structural aircraft components. You will work with a team of engineers on uncrewed aerial vehicles, including modification of existing aircraft structures and design-to-build activities for commercial and military aircraft. You will work with composite and metallic primary and secondary structures mechanical system components and electrical/avionics systems component installations.
Responsibilities:
- Produce airframe structural configuration layouts and detail designs
- Create and maintain CAD solid models and drawings that meet all requirements
- Review and check product structure and BOMs to ensure component integrity
- Conduct design reviews and collaborate with other departments
- Prepare presentations for program reviews

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering preferred
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 with a focus on Generative Surface Design Part Design and Assembly
- Familiarity with industry standards for aerospace composite components
- Strong technical experience in aerospace manufacturing and assembly of metallic and composite components
- Experience with manufacturing Liasson / Shop support
o Not handling shop tools
- Familiarity with GDT per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance analysis capabilities
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.41 methods for Model Based Definition using CATIA V5 FTA
- Experience with CATIA V5 CPD and/or FiberSIM for composite part design
Preferred:
- Ability to create and maintain parametric product geometry models
- Proficiency in composite part detail processes including composites stacking sequence lamination theory honeycomb core bonded assemblies and post-cure machining operations
- Experience with product data management systems such as Smarteam or Enovia LCA/PDM

This is a Contract position based out of Manassas, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $85.00/hr.
