    Job Title: Application EngineerJob Description

     

    The Sales Application Engineer (SAE) is responsible for collaborating with the Sales team to develop conceptual designs for proposals and projects. This role serves as the expert in developing preliminary designs and assisting with cost estimates. The SAE is integral in designing, integrating, and managing complex design requests from customers, which are utilized by design engineering teams. The position focuses on system, process, and design efficiency improvement goals, identifying areas for enhancement in application and design engineering tasks. The SAE supports various engineering development tools and processes.

    Responsibilities

    + Deliver high-value solutions by analyzing project specifications, proposal documents, and associated costs to create robust conceptual design solutions.

    + Ensure product designs meet the needs of design engineering development teams, including Electrical and Mechanical teams.

    + Assist in creating and executing implementation plans, including schedules, budgets, and projected cost savings for efficiency and product improvement projects.

    + Achieve project and group goals while adhering to approved budgets.

    + Assist sales and design engineering teams in customer calls as needed.

    + Interface with cross-functional teams to understand and communicate technical requirements.

    + Contact vendors to request specification information and quotes for analysis.

    + Solve problems and identify creative solutions based on customer requirements.

    + Review special request parts and develop non-catalog solutions.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in SolidWorks or relevant 3D CAD experience.

    + Experience with metal fabrication manufacturing processes.

    + Experience designing sheet metal-based products.

    + Proven track record of working comfortably with customers, articulate, sharp, and personable.

    + Experience supporting quoting and estimating functions for sales, including materials, timelines, and capabilities.

    + BOM experience (creating, editing, verifying accuracy).

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years of experience or 5 years of experience in a technical field.

    + Demonstrated success developing designs in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and equivalent software.

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    + Attention to detail and accuracy in collaborative work environments.

    + Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills.

    + Ability to adapt and change based on project needs.

    + Knowledge of engineering development and product lifecycle.

    + Familiarity or experience with UL, CUL, or other compliance agencies.

    + Experience with mechanical systems and integration of systems modeling and AutoCAD software.

    + Nice to have: Project management experience, hands-on manufacturing experience, familiarity with UL and/or CUL compliance agencies, experience in AutoCAD, Creo, 3D modeling, mechanical design, quoting, estimation, and product engineering.

    Work Environment

    A hybrid work schedule is offered, with one day per week typically remote, though preference is for full-time office presence. 75% of the role involves design on new projects, while 25% relates to customer and field support work. The team includes expertise in tanks, enclosures, and plumbing, with four Mechanical Engineers and two Sales Application Engineers.

    This is a Permanent position based out of Darien, WI.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
