Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer – Water/Wastewater (Remote – EST/CST Preferred)
Join a nationally recognized engineering firm dedicated to delivering innovative water and wastewater solutions. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil or Environmental Engineer to support large-scale infrastructure projects across the Midwest and Southeast regions. This is a remote-friendly role with occasional site visits, ideally suited for candidates located in the Eastern or Central time zones.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead and support technical planning, biological process and mechanical design, and construction for water and wastewater treatment and resource recovery projects.
+ Contribute to projects involving combined sewer overflow systems, pump stations, stormwater management, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling.
+ Perform engineering calculations and process modeling using tools such as Excel, Biowin, or GPS-X.
+ Prepare technical memoranda, design reports, P&ID documentation, and business case evaluations.
+ Develop construction plans and specifications in accordance with local and state standards.
+ Assist with permitting, scope development, budgeting, and scheduling of project tasks.
+ Monitor task progress and budget, document design changes, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders.
+ Provide on-site technical guidance during construction and start-up phases as needed.
+ Participate in client meetings, public forums, and internal project reviews.
+ Support proposal development and contribute to thought leadership through publications and presentations at industry conferences.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
+ Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in water resource engineering, including large-scale piping, valve systems, pumping stations, and treatment technologies.
+ Strong understanding of conventional activated sludge processes, including nitrification/denitrification, phosphorus removal, and solids handling.
+ Proficiency in process modeling software (Biowin, GPS-X, etc.).
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Ability to manage technical documents and drawings effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
+ 10+ years of relevant experience.
+ Experience publishing and presenting at state or national conferences.
+ Strong client relationship management skills.
Work Environment & Location
+ Fully remote role with occasional site visits to project locations such as Michigan, Florida, Ohio, and Nebraska.
+ Candidates must be based in the U.S. (excluding California), with preference for those in the Midwest or Southeast regions (EST/CST time zones).

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $70.00/hr.
