    Position Description

    Manage technical support for all Division 8 assets to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operations of all equipment and systems. Direct and manage all Division 8 technical support personnel which consists of three measurement groups, one corrosion group and one mechanical/controls group. In addition to employee performance, training, and development, Technical Services Manager supports safety and environmental programs, regulatory and O&M compliance, and completes budget/forecast for all Division 8 technical support teams. Technical Services Manager will also provide support for overall Division operations budget/forecast activities as well as daily support for ongoing O&M and Division project activities. Kinder Morgan’s Division 8 Operating Area spans much of the Southeast including Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, southern South Carolina and northern Florida.

     

    The Technical Services Manager will be based out of Kinder Morgan’s Regional Headquarters located at 569 Brookwood Village, Birmingham, AL 35209. This is a Monday through Friday position with bi-weekly on-call responsibilities nights and weekends.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Oversees the Measurement, Corrosion and Mechanical Technical teams supporting the operation and maintenance of Division 8 facilities.

    + Ensures the implementation and enforcement of all company guidelines, policies and procedures.

    + Makes recommendations to Management regarding changes to such guidelines, policies & procedures, as necessary to achieve target goals.

    + Set the objectives for the preparation of the operating and capital budgets for area of responsibility within the Division and reviews the status of the monthly forecasting during the fiscal year.

    + Oversees functions related to outside contractors operating on company property or in company Right-of-Way areas in order to protect company interests.

    + Reviews progress and directs changes in priorities and schedules as needed to assure work is completed in an efficient and timely manner. Participates in the selection/promotion of staff, salary change considerations, and disciplinary matters and conducts performance evaluations.

    + Develops short and long-term plans, goals and objectives within the Division operations.

    + Coordinates department services with other departments, governmental agencies, and customers.

    + Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations affecting pipeline operations.

    + Ensures current security measures protect company assets while preserving the safety of the general public, customers, and company personnel.

    + Coordinates/participates in the design and construction of new facilities and replacement or repair of existing facilities with various team leaders.

    + Interacts with customers, as needed, to coordinate operations and construction activities.

    + Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.

    + Oversees general pipeline maintenance and DOT compliance activities within the area of responsibility

    Position Requirements

    Educational:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or in a technical field or ten years of equivalent skills and experience in the natural gas industry.

    Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

    + Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers.

    Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:

    + Must have working knowledge of PHMSA and OSHA regulations.

    + Has solid understanding of business objectives and implements projects and ideas that significantly impact cash flow.

    + Outlines project requirements and monitors progress to ensure the objectives are being met.

    Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Intermediate computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operation systems and other company software) and for the purpose of word processing, spreadsheets and analysis, tracking results and presentations.

    + Good math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals.

    + Good verbal and written communications skills (able to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization, governmental regulators, customers and the public).

    + Effective personnel management skills, especially strong delegation skills.

    + Strong customer focus in dealing with engineering, field operations, other internal and external groups.

    + Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details and follow work rules.

    + Ability to plan, organize, document, prioritize and complete work efficiently.

    + Strong leadership and listening skills.

    + Strong commitment to safety and have active participation in the safety program.

    + Must have general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to Gas Transmission operations and associated business units.

    + Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.

    + Ability to identify and anticipate expectations in an asset or project development.

    + Basic knowledge and awareness of wage/hour, benefits, and employment laws/regulations.

    + Ability to organize and priority daily work, and maintain strict confidentiality.

    + Good communication and presentation skills.

    Working Conditions:

    + Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, and to see, hear, walk and talk effectively.

    + Must participate in callouts and emergencies after regular business hours as part of the management team.

    + Required to carry a company-provided cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

    + Travel will be required periodically, based on needs of the pipeline system and regional operations.

    Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

    + Knowledge of the company procedures and government regulations relevant to pipeline operations.

    + Work experience in natural gas industry instrumentation, electronics, and control systems.

    + Understanding of process controls and gas processing fundamentals.

    + Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high pressure systems.

    + Knowledge and experience with high pressure gas, processing equipment, pumps and reciprocating or gas turbine engines.
