    Job Description:

    Under the direction of the Principal Investigator(s) and Project Director, the Behavioral Health Research Assistant will be responsible for administering a manualized intervention to study participants enrolled in several behavioral HIV prevention and substance-use treatment intervention trials within the Department of Epidemiology. Study participants mainly include individuals from marginalized or disenfranchised groups who are at heightened risk for HIV transmission or acquisition, sexual and gender minorities, people who use drugs, men who engage in transactional sex with other men, and those with behavioral health problems, such as depression.

    Education

    + Preferred: BA in psychology, mental health, or behavioral science aspects of public health (or equivalent work experience in a related field)

    + Preferred: Training in CBT, behavioral activation, and/or motivational interviewing.

    Experience

    + Prior professional community-based participatory research/implementation research preferred.

    + Experience working with diverse groups of individuals including but not limited to people living with HIV, people of color, people who identify as LGBTQ, people who engage in sex work, and people with substance use problems.

    + Preferred experience or demonstrated interest in HIV prevention and substance abuse treatment.

    Job Competencies

    + Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) skills

    + Familiarity with using email and Microsoft word applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Power-Point, Excel, Email)

    + Meticulous attention to detail, organized, and able to work on many different projects simultaneously

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills; Able to talk about sensitive topics in a mature manner

    + Interested in health disparities, public health, HIV and sexual and reproductive health

    + Self-starter

     

    This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 11/30/2026, which may be extended based upon available funding.

     

    All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University.

     

    This is a hybrid eligible position.
