Description
The position will report directly to the Assistant Director and assist with the supervision of the
inventory processing technicians, students and volunteers working on collections-related
projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
+ Periodically review policies and guidelines governing acquisition and deaccession of artifacts.
+ Evaluate potential acquisitions in light of policies and collecting guidelines.
+ Communicate with donors, potential donors and other KCOM/ATSU departments involved with donor relations (especially UA and Alumni).
+ Oversee the Collection Committee to review all incoming donations.
+ Participate in the acquisitions process (gift and transfer agreements, artifact descriptions, storage); accessions and catalogs new acquisitions.
+ Review collections, identifying artifacts for deaccession.
+ Periodically review policies and guidelines governing collection management.
+ Periodically reviews the Museum’s Disaster Plan.
+ Maintains collections records.
+ Participate in the computerized inventory, working with data entry protocols, participate in data entry, and assist with the supervision of other staff and volunteers working on inventory.
+ Monitor status and preservation of collection, takes basic steps to stabilize and protect artifacts.
+ Work with the Assistant Director to plan and oversee special preservation projects.
+ Plan and implement storage and relocation of artifacts.
+ Work with the Collections Committee to evaluate requests for loan of Museum objects, oversees loan process.
+ Work on backlog of unprocessed donations and collections.
+ Work on the digitization of the Museum’s collection.
+ Assist in the maintenance of the accession records, condition and location of objects in the Museum’s collections.
+ Work with Director and staff on long-range planning.
+ Provide advice and information regarding artifact handling, use, and archival standards.
+ Assist with the training of new staff and volunteers in collections-related areas.
+ Assist the Director and Assistant Director with regards to traveling artifacts, choosing artifacts, packing artifacts and documenting condition of artifacts.
+ Assist the Office Manager with the Gift Shop and large tour groups.
+ Assist with and prepares guided tours and lectures for museum patrons.
Requirements
Education & Experience
+ Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies. Master's degree preferred.
+ 2-4 years museum work experience preferred.
+ Must be proficient in PastPerfect software and have excellent skills in Microsoft, Excel, and Adobe Photoshop.
+ Must be organized and have the ability to problem solve, work independently and with a team-oriented culture.
+ Strong writing and collaborative interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to life 40 pounds and climb step ladder.
