    Position Title: Operations Support, Emerging Talent Intern

     

    Hourly Rate: $21.00 (Graduate)

    OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:

    The Division of Operations Planning (OP) plays a key role in designing efficient and effective subway and bus service for New York City Transit. It monitors ridership trends and operational performance across the transit system and develops strategies to deliver the best possible service—balancing the needs of riders with operational, maintenance, construction requirements, and available resources.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Calculate the Level of Service or egress time at a particular station element using Station Planning methodologies and templates

    + Summarize the results of a calculation in an email or report and provide reasonable recommendations for manager review

    + Measure station elements and count passenger volumes in stations under employee supervision

    + Write or refine a SQL script to automatically obtain ridership information by fare control area for analysis

    + Create an Excel-based database on the team SharePoint page with up-to-date information about station elements

    + Participate in meetings with other departments to discuss an upcoming station improvement project

    + Identify and communicate the likely customer wayfinding needs during an upcoming partial station closure

    + Attend Station Planning staff meetings and update team on project progress

    PROJECTS:

    + Assisting manager with quantitative analysis of passenger flow/congestion during construction at a package of stations being upgraded with elevators for ADA compliance

    + Data gathering of peak hour passenger counts at key station elements and the organization of existing and new data into a comprehensive database of station elements and their most recently collected passenger flow volumes

    + Assisting manager with the evaluation of station impacts of new subway trips added by an upcoming rezoning

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.

    • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.

    • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.

    • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION:

    • Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA

    • Major(s) Preferred: Urban Planning, Urban Studies or related field.
