Job Title: I&C System Desing Engineer

Type: Contract

Compensation: $56 - $95 hourly

Contractor Work Model: Remote

System One is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer to support our client’s advanced nuclear programs. This role will focus on the design, development, and integration of instrumentation and control systems for next-generation reactor technologies.

The position reports to the Plant I&C Manager and involves collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to design and test reactor I&C systems, prototype hardware, and control architectures.

Responsibilities

+ Lead design of I&C and supporting electrical systems from system-level functional requirements through final design.

+ Develop and review specifications, system design descriptions, and engineering drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, architecture drawings, etc.).

+ Perform design evaluations applying applicable nuclear codes, standards, and NRC regulations.

+ Develop and manage I&C documentation, including System Requirements Documents, Interface Control Documents, and Engineering Design Specifications.

+ Specify instrumentation and measurement techniques for high-temperature processes and advanced reactor systems.

+ Support integration of I&C systems with other engineering disciplines and plant design functions.

+ Provide technical oversight and guidance for suppliers and subcontractors, including technical review of deliverables and coordination of engineering packages.

+ Support licensing activities and preparation of Safety Analysis Reports.

+ Drive continuous improvement by incorporating nuclear industry best practices and design control standards.

Qualifications

+ B.S. or higher in Electrical, Controls, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university.

+ 6+ years of direct experience in I&C system design, development, or implementation (advanced degree may substitute for years of experience).

+ Experience with industrial or nuclear I&C platforms, diagnostics, and data reporting.

+ Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, and ASME NQA-1 / 10 CFR 50 Appendix B design and quality standards.

+ Prior experience designing or operating high-temperature (400°C+) systems preferred.

+ Ability to interpret and develop PFDs and P&IDs.

+ Experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or SolidWorks preferred.

+ Excellent technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.

+ Strong attention to detail, initiative, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

+ Experience with I&C system startup testing a plus.

Additional Information

+ Full-time, 40 hours per week.

+ Travel may be required up to 5%.

+ Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
