    The Work You Will Do:

    Drainage Designer IV, District 6/Design/Drainage

     

    This position will contribute to the design and engineering of the state drainage and stormwater management systems, providing a safe and efficient system for all users of our state road facilities.

    Anticipated Pay:

    $2,644.68 - $3,422.53 / biweekly

     

    A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976 will be added to the annual salary.

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    Perform technical work in drainage design and permitting for highway projects, with little or no supervision. This includes, but is not limited to, the design of storm sewers, roadside swales/ditches, retention/detention ponds,exfiltration trenches, and pollution control structures. Additional work includes the documentation of all supporting drainage calculations and computer applications required for design and permitting purposes. This position requires significant coordination with the roadway designer to ensure all project schedules are maintained, and all drainage and permitting problems are resolved.

     

    Completes phase reviews of highway projects designed by consultants with regards to drainage design and permitting. This includes coordination with Florida Department of Transportation

     

    (Department) project managers and consultants; making recommendations for improved drainage design and enforcement of Department drainage criteria; establishing permits requirements for

     

    each project and completing the required reviews of the permit sketches and applications.

     

    Respond to drainage inquires (flooding problems) made by the public, Department staff, local government, and others. This includes collection of all relevant drainage data, and development of

     

    recommendations for resolution with all supporting drainage calculations and potential permitting needs.

     

    Assist in the preparation of Project Development & Environmental (PD&E) reports. This includes collecting drainage data, evaluating floodplain impacts, defining drainage areas, determining

     

    outfall locations, establishing permit criteria, defining the involved permit agencies, making recommendations on alternatives and computing cost estimates.

     

    Assist in the preparation of Bridge Hydraulics Reports and Bridge Hydraulics Recommendation Sheets. Also, include assisting in performing hydraulic studies and preparing reports such as

     

    Location Hydraulics Reports and Pond Siting Reports for PD&E studies and design.

     

    Recommend improvements and innovations to the District Drainage Engineer on any drainage and permit work process. This may include changes/revisions to the drainage databases,

     

    management of our resources, processing of phase reviews, or any other process overseen by the Drainage section.

    The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:

    + basic stormwater management

    + Department criteria for use in review and design

    + computer aided design and drawing software, including Microstation and Geopak

    + basic environmental permitting

    Skills in:

    + using a personal computer and software, including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs

    + verbal and written communication

    + interpreting maps, aerials and construction plans

    + negotiating both internally and externally with other agencies

    + managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines

    Ability to:

    + work independently

    + perform field reviews

    + present information in an organized manner

    + perform as a team member

    + establish and maintain working relationships with others

    + present information in an organized manner

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of continuous employment experience or three years of higher education with a cumulative of 72 semester hours or 108 quarter hours.

     

    OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: During a declared emergency event, the incumbent will be required to assist the District as needed.
