A Brief Overview
The Manager, Critical Care, coordinates and has 24/7 accountability for the operation of nursing services within the Critical Care Unit of the hospital. She/he will utilize evidence-based leadership competencies and strategies to ensure the highest quality outcomes, operational efficiency, and a healthy work environment for employee partners. The Manager's responsibilities include ongoing maintenance of quality monitoring improvement program and departmental oversight and participation in steering teams and councils overseeing Critical Care and Hospital Medicine. The Manager evaluates employee work performance by providing employee counseling in cooperation with Human Resources, Director, Critical Care Services, AVP Acute Care Operations, and CNO. The Manager communicates and collaborates with other departments for problem identification and resolution. Through the Manager, nursing activities are coordinated with other departments. She/he will lead department and charge nurse meetings monthly, participate in system and department level Shared Governance committees, TH Safety and Quality Councils, policy and procedure review and development, and other teams/committees assigned. In general, the Manager works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers as well as members of Nursing and Hospital Leadership to ensure the efficient, safe operation of the Critical Care area as well as completes other leadership duties as assigned
What you will do
+ Supports patient safety environment by promoting an environment that informs and assists staff allowing them to focus on patient safety related issues
+ Demonstrates critical thinking abilities with patient care, physician contacts and other members of the Management Team
+ Monitors staff/patient ratio and adjusts staffing based on identified needs of patients and efficiency of department schedule
+ Maintains a rapport and open line of communication with Material Management to ensure availability of supplies and equipment
+ Supports and monitors the avenues and opportunities for staff to pursue the journey of excellence through Shared Governance
Education Qualifications
+ BSN Required
+ MSN Preferred
Experience Qualifications
+ A minimum of 3 years’ experience of Critical Care organization and operations knowledge Required
+ A minimum of 3 years’ experience with nursing care techniques and methods of caring for the Critical Care population according to AACN standards Required
+ History of a track of progressive leadership experience in Critical Care Preferred
+ Prior experience compiling, developing and analyzing healthcare related data Preferred
Skills and Abilities
+ Strong organizational skills
+ Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers as well as members of Nursing and Hospital Management
+ Ability to prioritize assignments, handle interruptions and multi-task
+ Demonstrated excellent clinical skills
+ Proficient with PC’s and Microsoft Office Software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
+ Demonstrated effective leadership, interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead and facilitate teams
+ Strong written and oral communication skills
+ Knowledge of “LEAN” concepts
Licenses and Certifications
+ Registered Nurse - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Required
+ CCRN certification (within one year of hire) Required
+ Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association Required
+ Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certified - American Heart Association Required
