    _This Senior AWS Cloud Architect position is a REMOTE part time contract for 6 months, governed by contractor's policies and option to receive contractor's benefits._

    Brief Job Overview:

    This is a hands-on, senior-level, non-supervisory individual contributor position. The incumbent will review existing cloud architecture designs, develop new architectures, define industry-aligned standards, and contribute to cost optimization and system performance improvements. They will enhance our cloud architectures and DevOps delivery pipelines to support critical applications, including our subscription-based online publications (Nabu), our single sign-on suite (AccessPoint), and other key systems. The role involves close collaboration with enterprise architects, software engineers, systems engineers, SQA engineers, and third-party vendors to deliver high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective solutions within a high-performance hybrid cloud environment. The incumbent will also provide strategic input to automate repetitive tasks, implement configuration as code, and reduce manual deployment efforts—ultimately maximizing system quality and minimizing time to market in support of USP’s mission.

    Summary of Duties:

    • Design, build, and maintain secure and cost-effective cloud infrastructure on AWS ensuring high availability and scalability.

    • Design, architect, and lead the integration and installation of new technologies with regards to AWS and AWS integrations.

    • Participate in design discussions with Enterprise architects and other stakeholders, review new and existing architectures, and provide suggestions.

    • Make architecture diagrams and share with application teams and enterprise architects.

    • Review observability data and optimize resources for better performance and lower cost.

    • Design, build and optimize DevOps pipelines including multiple quality gates and quick feedback loops.

    • Collaborate with application development teams to transform traditional web applications into container-based environments using Docker and AWS Elastic Container Service/Fargate.

    • Lead the coordination of vendors, suppliers and professional services during project engagements and research & development queries.

    • Act as a Technical Lead on a variety of projects, delivering high quality, in an agile environment.

    • Develop KPIs, establishing quantitative and qualitative metrics to track pipeline performance.

    • Keep abreast with the rapid changes in technology and recommend suitable technology improvements that are fit for the business and the IT enterprise.

    • Monitor mission critical applications and troubleshoot any production issues, which will require availability after normal business hours as needed and report on system availability.

    • Provide complete and accurate documentation as required by USP Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.

    • Analyze infrastructure costs, recommend, and implement optimization measures.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, relevant field, or equivalent work experience.

    • Minimum of five (10) years of hands-on experience designing and building AWS infrastructures and DevOps pipelines.

    • Expertise in Cloud infrastructure standards, design patterns, tools, observability, cost optimization, and performance improvement.

    • Expertise in automating infrastructure with Terraform and other scripts.

    • Expertise in AWS foundational services, plus: ECS/Fargate, RDS, ElastiCache, CodeCommit, Batch, Lamda.

    • Expertise in CI/CD and Agile tool sets including Jira, Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins. • Strong Linux administration, networking skills, and database design skills.

    • Expertise with web application stack including Apache, Tomcat, PHP, RDS (MySQL, Aurora), Node.js, JSON.

    • Expertise with data analytics platform design, data lakes design, API heavy applications, microservices, and so on.

    • Strong containerization skills using Docker, and deployment strategies using Container orchestration services.

    • Demonstrated expertise maintaining infrastructure as code using Terraform.

    • Experience with programming/scripting languages, including but not limited to: Javascript, Python, PHP, Java, HTML, CSS, JSON. • Advanced knowledge of cloud computing and integration methods.

    • Ability to lead, implement, and design large scale complexed technology solutions.

    • Ability to learn new technologies and cross-train and/or be cross-trained as part of IT support.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
