    Position Overview:

    The Cryo-EM and Bioimaging Division in the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource Directorate at SLAC seeks a Staff Scientist with research interest and strong experience in cryo-electron tomography and cryo-electron microscopy (cryoET/EM) as applied to biology and biomedical science. The scientist will pursue a vigorous biologically based cryoET research program that will utilize the development of new capabilities at SLAC, including experimental approaches, instrumentation, image analysis, and integration of cryoET and cryoEM. There will be interactions with graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and faculty at Stanford University¿s Schools of Medicine, Engineering, and Humanities & Sciences. The position includes a significant role in an NIH-funded user facility center at SLAC that provides training of scientists in cryoET/EM techniques.

    Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    + Develop a strong research program in the area of cryoET and cryoEM as applied to biochemical, biomedical, and biological science.

    + Provide high-level expertise in the development of experimental and computational methodologies for solving 3-D structures at high resolution using cryoET, cryoEM and computer reconstructions.

    + Create external and internal scientific collaborations with researchers that can include academia, national laboratories and industry.

    + Drive the creation of research infrastructure at the Cryo-EM and Bioimaging Division that enables the growth of cryoET and cryoEM capabilities.

    + Mentor, train and supervise scientists (e.g. postdoctoral scholars, junior staff scientists) in broadly defined cryoET techniques, including from sample preparation through structure solution.

    + Assist staff with training external users in cryoET and cryoEM, including for workshops at SLAC and on Stanford campus.

    **Note:** The Staff Scientist level is a regular continuous position. Applicants will be evaluated on research experience and accomplishments in field of expertise. Applicants should include a cover letter, a statement of research including brief summary of accomplishments, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and names of five references for future letters of recommendation with the application.

    To be successful in this position you will bring:

    + Ph.D. in biochemistry or related field, with at least 4 years of post-Ph.D. professional experience.

    + Proven record of independent research including publications in major journals and conference presentations in cryoET/EM as applied to biological and biomedical research.

    + Strong background in cryoET/EM techniques and computational analysis of cryoET/EM data.

    + Demonstrated scientific leadership skills.

    + Demonstrated mentoring and teaching skills.

    + Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a challenging, high-paced environment.

    + Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.

    + Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.

    _The expected pay range for this position is $147,461 - $207,470 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs._
