In this role, you'll play a key part in patient care by applying EEG electrodes using the 10/20 system and troubleshooting electrode-related issues. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and possess a solid understanding of neuroanatomy.

Schedule: This position includes two 8-hour shifts and two 12-hour shifts per week, with occasional weekend and holiday rotations.
Purpose:
Perform under direct supervision and according to established guidelines and procedures, routine and complex procedures to obtain data for use in the clinical diagnosis of disorders of the nervous system in at least one of the following modalities of Neurodiagnostics: Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Epilepsy Monitoring and Polysomnograhy (PSG), or Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS). Perform duties in various diagnostic and research areas as assigned.
Responsibilities:
+ Operate computer equipment to record nervous system responses that provide quantitative and objective measures of the neuronal/sensory function.
+ Collaborate with supervisor and medical personnel to resolve problems and to advise concerning laboratory procedures, techniques and equipment.
+ Clean, adjust and perform routine maintenance and repair on neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure proper functioning. Troubleshoot routine equipment problems.
+ Document pertinent medical history from the patient or family members.
+ React in medical emergencies to ensure patient safety; know unit and hospital procedures for working with high acuity patients.
+ Recognize changes in the clinical condition of the patient and correlate those changes with the EEG. Discriminate the changes requiring intervention such as seizures or cardiac arrhythmia.
+ Schedule patients for neurodiagnostic procedures and obtain required medical information; explain procedures, alleviate fears, and elicit cooperation. Prepare patient for tests to include measuring and marking cranial area and fastening electrodes to specified positions on scalp and body.
+ Perform procedures with appropriate documentation.
+ Identify EEG waveforms/patterns during testing and communicate to medical personnel.
HS diploma and 6 months of patient care OR an Assoc or Bachelor degree.*Procirca Employees Only: This position includes a Neuro Training Agreement, which comes with a 3-year commitment to UPMC. Failure to agree and sign the Neuro Training Agreement contract prior to your start date will preclude you from further consideration for this position.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Act 34
