    Full-Time Phlebotomist - Outpatient Labs | UPMC Hanover

     

    UPMC Hanover is seeking a full-time phlebotomist to join our patient-focused outpatient lab team. This day-shift role includes every third Saturday and requires reliable transportation for traveling between outpatient locations. The phlebotomist is responsible for accurately performing phlebotomy and specimen collection, supporting lab tests essential for patient diagnosis and treatment. Additional duties may include computer, courier, and clerical tasks, all under the supervision of Medical Technologists. Prior phlebotomy experience or completion of a phlebotomy course is preferred.

    Responsibilities:

    + Provide courteous, professional interaction with all lab customers and respond promptly to inquiries.

    + Collect blood and other specimens using venipuncture, heelstick, fingerstick, or patient-guided collection.

    + Follow proper patient identification procedures and ensure sample accuracy.

    + Transport specimens safely from on- and off-site collection areas to the lab.

    + Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies, including safety, quality control, and infection prevention.

    + Perform clerical tasks: enter patient data, manage test orders, and ensure accurate sample tracking.

    + Train and orient new staff, students, and residents as assigned.

    + Notify technical staff or supervisors of unusual or problematic incidents.

    + Perform arterial punctures when required, following strict protocols.

    + Maintain and monitor supplies, using materials efficiently and cost-effectively.

    + High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    + Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.

    + Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.

    + Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

    + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

    + Act 33 with renewal

    + Act 34 with renewal

    + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
