Pay Range: $21.45-$29.00
General Responsibilities: The Pharmacy Technician II works collaboratively as a part of the Primary Care inter-professional team, which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, nurse care managers, behavioral health specialists, and other clinical staff. The Pharmacy technician works independently in an office setting, and reports directly to the SCH Clinical Pharmacist. Responsibilities include managing prescription refill requests using the electronic record, and authorizing appropriate requests using the medication refill protocol. The pharmacy technician will complete prior authorizations on behalf of the providers at SCMG Primary Care. The pharmacy technician will act as a liaison between providers, insurance companies, and pharmacies to ensure our patients receive their medications in a timely manner. The pharmacy technician will have other responsibilities as determined by the scope of the practice.
Required Qualifications: • Licensed as Pharmacy Technician II by the state of RI • Maintained certification with PTCB or EXCPT, complete CEs • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and prescription sig codes • Understanding of common medications and their indications • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Technology proficiency with experience using database information systems, Microsoft Office, and electronic medical records • Excellent organizational skills, and professionalism • Ability to work in a team-based environment Preferred Qualifications • Minimum 3-year experience as a Pharmacy Technician II • Extensive knowledge of refill renewal processes and insurance prior authorization (pharmacy perspective accepted, medical office preferred) Physical Effort/Environment • Moderate physical activity including walking, standing, and stooping • Clinical environment in ambulatory settings, multiple locations, transportation to sites required • Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, respiratory diseases, other infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials requiring universal standard precautions
