    Director, Kidney Disease Research In Vitro

     

    Bayer has an opening for a Director, Kidney Disease Researcg In Vitro to join our Cardiovascular-Renal In Vitro Research group based at the Bayer Innovation Campus at the heart of Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA, to further strengthen our experience in the kidney disease space globally and help build up a team of researchers at this site.

     

    We are looking for an expert scientist with deep knowledge of Kidney Disease Biology and demonstrated experience with the discovery and development of therapeutics. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated candidate interested in driving and growing our therapeutics pipeline in a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere.

     

    Your Tasks and Responsibilities

    The primary responsibilities of the Director, Kidney Disease In Vitro are to:

    + Responsible for leading multiple drug discovery programs, initiatives, or collaborations in Research / Early Development (RED) CVRI from target identification up through support of early clinical development;

    + Support and contribute to the drug development strategy of CVRI, with particular focus on kidney diseases and the intersection of the cardiovascular, renal, metabolic space;

    + Design and supervise the execution of functional cellular disease models to support target identification, therapeutic candidate characterization, and mechanism of action evaluations;

    + Provide scientific leadership and seek innovative solutions (internally and externally) in the application of in vitro methods to support our early discovery pipeline;

    + Collaborate with other R&D functions and support cross team and cross site activities;

    + Contribute key documentation and presentations for projects moving through internal review stage gates and regulatory submissions;

    + Support the management and coaching of research associates and junior scientists in a matrix organization;

    + Collaborate effectively with colleagues and interdisciplinary teams both within Bayer and with external collaborators;

    + Assess external targets and programs to understand the competitive landscape and identify potential opportunities for collaboration or technological innovation;

    + Maintain and extend a network with external partners from academia, contract research organizations, and medical experts;

    + Foster creativity and motivation between scientists;

     

    Who You Are

    Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

    Required Qualifications:

    + A Ph.D. in Biology (Cellular, Molecular or Developmental Biology), Biochemistry, or related life science field;

    + A strong background in kidney disease biology;

    + Demonstrated track record in the drug discovery process in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting;

    + A deep knowledge and hands-on experience in designing and establishing translatable functional cellular disease models (2D or 3D) to aid target identification and therapeutic evaluation;

    + Deep expertise in the application of state-of-the-art in vitro methods across the early drug discovery process (including molecular biology, biochemistry, and cellular analytical techniques);

    + Experience in the design and execution of early-stage research program(s) to identify and validate novel targets;

    + Experience in strategic planning and project leadership;

    + Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and within external collaborations, and a demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to cross-functional audiences;

    + Ability to adapt to and effectively manage changes in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;

    + A passion for science and sense of urgency to find new medicines to benefit patients.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + 12+ years of relevant post-PhD experience including 4+ years in industry is preferred, with a proven record of successful team leadership and interaction with collaborators;

    + Expertise in cardiovascular or metabolic space.

     

    Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $168,395.20 - $252,592.80. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include healthcare, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.

     

    This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, skills, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
