About the Role
As a Distinguished Engineer in the Purchase domain, you’ll operate at the intersection of scale, complexity, and impact. You’ll drive the technology vision and architecture for our Cart, Checkout, Promotions, Order Amends, and Frontend Platform teams—spanning both frontend and backend. Your leadership will enable world-class engineering solutions for hundreds of millions of customers across multiple countries and markets.

About Team:
Focusing on customer, associate and business needs, this team works with Walmart International, which includes more than 5,200 retail units, operating in 23 countries such as Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Mexico and South Africa to name a few.
What You’ll Do
+ **Architect for Scale:** Design and evolve the technical architecture for highly scalable microservices andmodern frontend applications(React, Node.js, GraphQL,Java, Spring Boot, NoSQL, Kafka, Azure).
+ **Drive Cross-Domain Vision:** Set and align architectural direction across Cart, Checkout, Promotions, Order Amends, and Platform, ensuring seamless integration and a unified customer experience.
+ **Lead by Influence** **:** Guide and mentor principal engineers, architects, and managers. Be a trusted advisor, shaping best practices, technical direction, and major design decisions.
+ **Foster Engineering Excellence:** Build frameworks, standards, and tools that raise the bar for code quality, reliability, and operational excellence across all teams.
+ **Champion Innovation:** Lead technical explorations, evaluate emerging technologies, and incubate solutions that future-proof our business.
+ **Cultivate a Culture of Collaboration:** Partner closely with product, UX, program management, and global engineering teams. Build an environment of psychological safety, learning, and respect for diverse perspectives.
+ **Ensure Resilience and Security:** Embed security, performance, and fault-tolerance into every layer of the stack—from the cloud to the customer’s screen.
+ **Deliver Business Impact:** Own and deliver solutions that move critical business metrics, unlock growth, and create best-in-class digital retail experiences for millions.
What You'll Bring:
+ **Proven Technical Mastery:** 16+ years of experience building and scaling complex systems across both frontend and backend. Deep expertise in microservices, distributed systems, cloud platforms, and modern web frameworks.
+ **Strategic Vision:** Demonstrated ability to define and execute cross-domain technical strategy in large, matrixed organizations.
+ **Inspiring Leadership:** Track record of mentoring senior engineers, leading design forums, and driving engineering culture at scale.
+ **Architectural Depth:** Mastery of technologies including Java,Spring Boot, Node.js, React, GraphQL, NoSQL (Cassandra/MongoDB), Kafka, and Azure Cloud.
+ **Holistic Mindset:** Strong design sensibility and attention to detail; passion for user experience, operational excellence, and business outcomes.
+ **Inclusive Collaboration:** Ability to bring together diverse perspectives, foster psychological safety, and build high-performing global teams.
+ **Communication Excellence:** Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to executive audiences, architects, and engineering teams alike.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
