The Principal Construction Specialist (OnsCon) plays a pivotal role in strengthening frontline leadership and operational excellence. This position focuses on building capability within site teams through mentoring and coaching, ensuring supervisors and craft personnel are fully equipped to execute their responsibilities effectively. By promoting adherence to quality and HSE standards, the role drives safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery. Acting as a trusted advisor, the Principal Construction Specialist (OnsCon) fosters a culture of continuous improvement and accountability, directly contributing to the success of strategic objectives and overall project performance.
+ Serve as a mentor and coach for frontline leadership and craft teams, fostering technical competence and leadership capability.
+ Participate in delivering a successful project.
+ Actively participate in the development of a construction HSSE culture that makes safety and environmental awareness a natural part of the job.
+ Ensure each mentor has a full understanding of the Project Execution Plan and other information pertinent to construction execution.
+ Resolve problems and assures construction procedures are implemented .
+ Embed Life-Saving Rules into daily operations and promote a strong safety culture across all site activities.
+ Champion the development of a construction culture where Quality and HSE are integral to every task.
+ Actively identify operational and HSE risks and collaborate with construction leadership to implement mitigation strategies.
+ Support the Construction Director in implementing best practices for HSE, quality, and productivity.
+ Monitor compliance with HSE standards, address gaps, and escalate issues when necessary.
+ Facilitate knowledge transfer and capability building through structured coaching sessions and hands-on guidance.
+ Mentor and coach Construction employees
+ Observe and ensure skills are being applied in daily activites.
+ Support training programs as required and ensure training plans are implemented and monitored.
+ Lead techincak modules, as a subject matter expert.
+ Provide input to the Training Department to address training and competency gaps.
+ Assist in implementing new processes, technologies, or cultural initiatives that impact frontline operations.
+ Develop an atmosphere of open and honest communication between MDR and Owner, with the goal of excellence in customer relationships.
+ Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures.
+ Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures.
+ Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams.
+ Bachelor’s Degree **OR** equivalent on-the-job experience.
+ Minimum of Fifteen (15+) years of experience in industrial construction projects with knowledge of Construction Planning
+ Five plus (5+) years of leadership experience.
+ Prior experience on a construction site, involved with work planning activities including a high level of knowledge and experience with the implementation of detailed work planning processes and procedures.
+ Knowledge of AWP as a project management methodology and familiarity with all phases of a project lifecycle.
+ Advanced understanding of construction sequencing and construction techniques.
+ Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex concepts.
+ Knowledge of training techniques..
+ The ability to influence others at a professional level
+ Excellent presentation skills.
+ MS Office skills, specifically with Excel and Access.
+ Extensive functional, business, industry, and leadership expertise.
+ Ability to work as a team member as well as act as a team leader.
+ Have wide experience with technical activities, including on and offshore operations.
+ Implementation and Management of MDR procedures and standards.
+ Ability to influence others at a professional level.
+ Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
+ Energetic with a positive and enthusiastic disposition, possessing a can-do attitude.
+ Respected for uncompromising integrity, work ethic, and professionalism.
+ Understand organizational structures for all roles that coincide with WorkFace Planning.
