    Hours: Flexible, 10am-10pm daily

     

    Pay: Unpaid Internship

    OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:

    We work with a variety of individuals from all walks of life who are experiencing life stressors or mental illness. In addition, we work with a diverse population, including children in which we practice in a family therapy model. Individuals interning within this setting will have exposure to many individuals with varying levels of needs. This clinical internship position will offer students the opportunity to take their education even further with direct individual support through community based crisis intervention.

     

    This position requires that applicants be enrolled in a degree program that will grant them credit hours for their internship. Applicants must also be second year master’s level students studying Social Work or Mental Health Counseling.

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

    The following tasks will be completed under the supervision of the clinical team leader of the Ulster County mobile mental health team.

     

    + Student will respond to requests for community stay where outreaches, with mobile mental health team, to provide clinical evaluations to individuals in distress into to provide them with appropriate supports to mitigate the crisis.

    + Student will provide clinical telephone assessments as needed. They will participate in follow up to diversion plans for individuals and families served by the mobile mental health team. This will include individuals and families seen in the community, emergency room, discharges, and discharges from inpatient facilities for mental health and or substance use.

    + Student will provide Narcan kits and training to the community at large.

    + Student will attend meetings with community providers, and the clinical team leader to assist in developing programming and understanding the needs of individuals with substance-abuse disorders.

    + Student will have regularly scheduled supervision with the clinical team leader of the Ulster County mobile mental health team.

    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

    + Opportunity to participate in Crisis Intervention

    + Gain experience in managing behavioral health documentation.

    + Additional assignments may be determined at a future date.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

    + Previous experience in a clinical setting is preferred.

    + Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail.

    + Sufficient skills to communicate effectively with both clients and staff.

    + Non-judgmental and empathic support.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    + Second year Master’s level Social Work or Mental Health Counseling student.

    + Previous behavioral health or clinical experience is preferred.

    PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

    + Must be capable to sit or stand in front of a computer for moderate-periods of time

    + Able to work in open space floor plan

    + Must be capable to move throughout work day and follow individuals

    + Work alongside individuals within 3 feet

    + Occasional lifting of > _15+pounds
