Your role and responsibilities
We are seeking a strategic and analytical Competitive Strategy professional to join our team focused on the IBM Data Platform. This role centers on understanding the evolving data and AI landscape—tracking competitors, market trends, and emerging technologies—and translating that knowledge into strategic insights that guide IBM’s portfolio direction.
You will work across teams to build a shared understanding of the data ecosystem, maintain competitive intelligence assets, and contribute to strategic planning efforts. Your work will help IBM anticipate market shifts, identify opportunities for differentiation, and support innovation across the entire platform—from governance and integration to analytics and AI services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Research and analyze trends across enterprise data platforms, AI services, governance frameworks, and integration tooling.
* Track competitor strategies, regulatory developments, and industry standards impacting data and AI adoption.
* Develop and maintain strategic assets such as capability maps, market scans, and trend reports for the full IBM Data Platform portfolio.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Product Management, Engineering, Legal, and Marketing—to share insights and drive strategic alignment.
* Contribute to portfolio planning processes by identifying whitespace opportunities, potential risks, and areas for differentiation.
* Present findings to internal stakeholders to foster awareness and informed decision-making.
* Support a culture of foresight, responsibility, and strategic thinking across IBM’s data and AI offerings.
Required technical and professional expertise
* Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
* Familiarity with concepts spanning data platforms, AI lifecycle management, governance, integration, and analytics.
* Strong research and synthesis skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear insights.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Self-directed and intellectually curious, with a passion for shaping the future of data and AI.
Preferred technical and professional experience
* PhD in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
* Exposure to data and AI platforms (e.g., IBM watsonx, Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS).
* Experience with governance and compliance tooling (e.g., IBM watsonx.governance, Credo AI, Holistic AI).
