Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager of Engineering, performs various general maintenance service duties following instructions, prescribed routines and procedures. Assignment is subject to change based on department priorities. Assist licensed and skilled trades personnel, performs general construction duties including demolition and clean-up procedures and storing of materials assigned and similar activities throughout the facility.
Position requires knowledge of maintenance equipment, general interior construction routines and required general mechanical aptitude and ability. A valid and current Massachusetts Driver’s License required.
Job Responsibilities:
Performs carpentry repairs, construction and maintenance on millwork cabinets and counters, doors and door hardware, windows, furniture, handrails, shelves, walls, ceilings, and floors to ensure that these function correctly. Maintain integrity of required fire barriers, including inspection, installation and repair of swinging fire rated doors, frames and hardware. Construction and repair of fire and smoke barriers walls and ceilings including installation of UL classified fire stopping systems. Performs wall repairs including patching, taping, sanding, priming and painting. Erect, setup, seal and take down of various infection control containment barriers. Performs unlicensed plumbing work in the maintenance of plumbing systems. Must be capable of working with other trades to repair these systems and fixtures in a prompt manner. Perform some mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of hospital building mechanical systems. Assist in cleaning work areas by collecting and removing rubbish, debris and materials. Replace light bulbs and ballasts. Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed by Management. Determination of material needs and material ordering as required for projects and to maintain general inventory needs. Works with other trades personnel as directed, including external contractors. Participate in on-call rotation for nights, weekends, and holidays, typically for one week at a time. Put hospital interests as a high priority. Fill shifts where needed and stay late if necessary
Required Work Experience:

Skills and Competencies:
Ability to read, write and speak English. Basic computer skills, such as how to log on to central computer systems, navigation and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, etc. Proficient in all aspects of electronic mail. Math Skills associated with general construction. Knowledge of and familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and equipment associated with maintenance trades. Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and willingness to learn interim life safety measures and and infection control procedures. Ability to follow directions and work independently or work as part of a team and the ability to work well and cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds.
