    KAMU Studios utilizes its TV and radio broadcasting and production resources, along with its many digital distribution channels, to provide unique and compelling content, continuing its more than 50-year legacy as a trusted public media source. We support Texas A&M University's mission by providing hands-on training for students, delivering educational and informational programming for all ages, and fostering original storytelling for the Bryan-College Station community and the entire Brazos Valley.

     

    What We Want

     

    The Director of Communications and Strategy is a key leadership role within KAMU at Texas A&M University. This position oversees a broad range of content creation, digital strategy and team management responsibilities that support the institution’s mission and visibility across platforms.

    Responsibilities

    Content Creation & Editorial:

    + Develop and manage a regular digital newsletter, curating content that aligns with institutional goals and engages target audiences.

    + Write, edit and publish website articles and collaborate with other departments for timely updates.

    + Oversee and assist with student-produced podcast content, providing editorial guidance and technical support.

    + Produce TV promos and other broadcast content, ensuring high-quality messaging and alignment with brand standards.

    + Occasionally photograph events or individuals for use in communications and media materials.

    Production & Visual Media Collaboration:

    + Collaborate closely with KAMU’s Visual Media Team to plan, coordinate and execute high-quality video, photography and design projects.

    + Participate in pre-production planning, script development and scheduling for visual content across platforms.

    + Provide leadership in setting production standards and workflows to ensure brand consistency and timely delivery.

    + Serve as a producer on key visual media projects, balancing creative direction with institutional goals.

    Technology & Platform Management:

    + Digital & Web Operations: Manage the home page and key sections of the website, ensuring timely, accurate and engaging content.

    + Curate content feeds, manage metadata and optimize user experience for the station’s streaming app

    + Oversee basic website analytics and reporting to evaluate performance and inform strategic decisions.

    + Maintain and enhance the organization’s visual identity, including designing or overseeing graphics for web, social, print and broadcast.

    Technology & Platform Management:

    + Ensure smooth operations and updates across media platforms and communications channels.

    Leadership & Team Management:

    + Help lead a diverse team of full-time and part-time employees, including staff, interns and students.

    + Provide strategic vision and leadership while fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented work environment.

    + Oversee project workflows, evaluate team performance and guide professional development efforts.

    Qualifications

    Required Education & Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + 10 years of professional management experience, including both staff and interns or students.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Proven experience in digital communications, content creation or media production in university or nonprofit setting preferred.

    + Familiarity with web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal), Adobe Creative Suite and podcasting tools is highly desirable.

    + Experience in graphic design, photography and video editing is a plus.

    + Prefer candidate who has worked for at least 5 years in a professional newsroom.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Exceptional leadership, organizational and interpersonal communication skills.

    + Strong understanding of analytics tools and content performance metrics.

    + Strong skills in writing, editing, project management and multimedia content development.

    + The role requires a dynamic individual with strong experience in content development, team leadership and digital communications, who can both guide high-level strategy and contribute hands-on to day-to-day operations, while also working with student workers.
