Description
The School of Engineering Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full time 11-month academic professional track (non-tenure), faculty position at the Professor of the Practice level. The candidate will play a central role in advancing EnMed’s mission to train a distinct class of medical professionals with expertise in both medicine and engineering, equipped to design innovative, practical, and impactful solutions to revolutionize healthcare. This position focuses on teaching and mentoring in the area of needs-driven innovation, guiding students, faculty, and other stakeholders through structured frameworks for identifying, developing, and implementing impactful solutions to healthcare challenges. Anticipated start date in Fall of 2025/Spring 2026.
The Professor of the Practice will organize and deliver lectures, facilitate interactive workshops, support innovation projects, and manage activities designed to cultivate skills in problem identification, solution development, and real-world translation. The role includes advising students and faculty, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and ensuring that EnMed's innovation curriculum is tightly aligned with the program's overall educational and strategic goals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Innovation Education/Course Delivery
+ Design, organize, and deliver high-quality lectures, discussions, and workshops on needs-driven innovation frameworks and their application to healthcare challenges.
+ Integrate real-world case studies, industry best practices, and emerging technologies into course content.
+ Facilitate active learning environments, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills
+ Oversee and/or Support course management tasks, including syllabus development, grading, student feedback, and curriculum coordination
Advising and Membership
+ Serve as an advisor to students, faculty, and multidisciplinary teams working on innovation projects
+ Provide guidance on project definition, solution validation, development planning, and strategic positioning for adoption or commercialization
+ Offer feedback on technical, clinical, and business aspects of students projects
Innovation Project Support
+ Support the identification, development, and advancement of projects emerging from the EnMed program
+ Work closely with innovation committees, faculty, and partners to assess project needs, recommend resources, and track progress
+ Encourage collaboration between clinical and engineering disciplines to address complex healthcare needs
Workshops and Applied Learning
+ Plan and lead hands-on workshops to develop skills in needs assessment, stakeholder engagement, prototyping, evaluation, and implementation
+ Partner with external experts, clinicians, and industry professionals to bring diverse perspectives into the learning environment
+ Align workshop activities with ongoing student and faculty innovation efforts
Program Contribution and Collaboration
+ Collaborate with EnMed leadership to refine and enhance the innovation curriculum
+ Build connections with external partners, healthcare organizations, and industry stakeholders to enrich educational experiences
+ Represent EnMed’s innovation mission in academic and professional forums
Qualifications
Required:
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, life sciences, business, or a related field
+ Medical Doctoral Degree (MD), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or equivalent degree in related field
+ Extraordinary record of accomplishment in healthcare innovation, product development, or entrepreneurship
+ Demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentoring, or training in multidisciplinary environments
+ Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills
Preferred:
+ Experience in healthcare product development, technology translation, or commercialization
+ Familiarity with regulatory pathways, intellectual property considerations, and market adoption strategies
+ Track record of successful innovation project leadership in academic or industry settings
