    Job Title: Automation TechnicianJob Description

     

    This role in Eastern Iowa focuses on providing support for PLC and HVAC automation. The technician will be responsible for troubleshooting and commissioning PLC-based control systems, including wiring, sensors, and BACnet networks. Key tasks include diagnosing HVAC issues, modifying control programs, and creating system dashboards. Strong PLC troubleshooting skills, field experience, and the ability to work independently on construction sites are essential.

    Responsibilities

    + Troubleshoot and commission PLC-based control systems.

    + Diagnose and resolve HVAC issues.

    + Modify and debug control programs.

    + Create and maintain system dashboards.

    + Commission microprocessor-based controls, including DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, and transducers.

    + Verify wiring for grounding, polarity, communication, and power.

    + Calibrate input/output devices, such as temperature sensors and pressure transducers.

    + Upload, download, and modify control programs.

    + Configure BACnet networks, including IP, subnet, MAC, and instance numbers.

    + Troubleshoot PLC systems and diagnose control logic issues.

    + Modify and debug ladder logic, structured text, and function block programming.

    + Map control points to supervisory controllers and add alarms and history.

    + Link control points to graphics and dashboards.

    + Design automation system graphics and dashboards.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience with microprocessors, DDC controllers, and multimeters.

    + Strong troubleshooting skills.

    + Ability to work autonomously.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Products.

    + Familiarity with Microsoft SQL or other database applications.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Associate's degree in Electronics, Technology, or Automation.

    + Entry-level role suitable for individuals exposed to relevant skills and environments.

    The position involves working in both office and field settings. In the office, expect extended periods of desk work involving computer-based tasks. Fieldwork includes frequent visits to local construction job sites with significant client interaction, involving 30-50% travel (anticipated to be under 20% during weekdays with several months' notice).
