Job Title: Electrical Controls Engineer
Job Description
The Controls Engineer manages the entire process from interpreting order specifications to supporting system startup. This includes reviewing order details, creating electrical schematics, sequences of operations, and heating and cooling specifications, and preparing submittal packages for customer approval. After approval, the engineer performs PLC and HMI programming while the system is being built at the plant, supports in-house testing as needed, and assists with installation and startup at customer sites. The role involves designing custom electrical schematics in compliance with UL and NEC standards, programming computer-based electrical and PLC design software, and calculating burner, airflow, and electrical requirements. The engineer also provides operational support and communicates with customers and field service technicians, while collaborating with manufacturing engineering and product sales teams.
Responsibilities
+ Manage the process from interpreting order specifications to supporting system startup.
+ Review order details and create electrical schematics, sequences of operations, and heating and cooling specifications.
+ Prepare submittal packages for customer approval.
+ Perform PLC and HMI programming during the plant build phase.
+ Support in-house testing and assist with installation and startup at customer sites.
+ Design custom electrical schematics in compliance with UL and NEC standards.
+ Program computer-based electrical and PLC design software.
+ Calculate burner, airflow, and electrical requirements.
+ Provide operational support and communicate with customers and field service technicians.
+ Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and product sales teams.
Essential Skills
+ 5+ years of PLC Programming from scratch, specifically Allen Bradley.
+ Proficient in electrical controls engineering and design.
+ Skilled in Rockwell Automation and EPlan (preferred).
+ Familiar with industrial electrical systems and components including PLC, VFD, sensors, motor starters.
+ Knowledgeable in industrial refrigeration systems
+ Understanding of burner direct and indirect, natural and propane systems.
+ Experience with air flows, volume, pressure, dew point, and humidity control.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficient in AutoCad Electrical.
+ Experience in the refrigeration industry is a plus.
+ Familiarity with software like Schneider Electric, Siemens, Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, Word, TeamViewer, and VNC Viewer.
+ Basic understanding of the NEC 70 code and how to find information within the code book.
+ Basic math skills for engineering calculations.
+ Engineering or Technologies Degree preferred.
Work Environment
The company has approximately 150 employees and conducts all manufacturing in-house. The controls team consists of five members in Minnesota and two in Iowa, with the manager based in Iowa and the site director in Medford. The team collaborates closely across locations. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely and be part of an ESOP company with a 15-20% annual payout, including profit sharing paid bi-annually

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake View, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
