    Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description

     

    The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

    + Update patient information accurately.

    + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Understand all physician orders thoroughly.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.

    + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.

    Essential Skills

    + Phlebotomy

    + Specimen collection

    + 1 year of experience with drawing hard sticks

    + Customer service

    + Phlebotomy certification

    + Medical and healthcare knowledge

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with phlebotomy on all types of patients

    + Experience with hard sticks and needles, urine, and thyroid testing

    + Data entry and processing skills

    + Detail-oriented with good experience

    + Experience in emergency room or urgent care settings

    Work Environment

    This position is located in a Patient Service Center (PSC), which ranks as the third highest in patient volume in the area, serving 130-140 patients per day. The working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn how to draw blood from children.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, VA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
