    Overview

     

    As the Principal Architect, Future of Work within the Talent Management function, you will play a critical role in translating enterprise strategy into actionable talent infrastructure. You will lead the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of enterprise-wide job architecture, skills frameworks, and competency models that serve as the foundation for workforce planning, career development, and performance management. This role is deeply embedded in the business and HR ecosystem, requiring close collaboration with partners across Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Organizational Effectiveness, Total Rewards, and People Business Partners, as well as senior leaders across business units. You will ensure that job and skills frameworks are not only strategically aligned but also operationally executable—supporting real-time talent decisions, enabling internal mobility, and driving future-ready capability building. Your work will directly influence how we define work, assess talent, and build agile, skills-based workforce strategies. By integrating these frameworks into performance management and career development processes, you will help create a more dynamic and transparent talent experience that supports both individual growth and organizational success.

    Responsibilities

    + Co-develop and govern a unified job architecture in partnership with Total Rewards and Talent Management, ensuring alignment with business strategy, compensation, and career frameworks. Establish shared ownership and handoffs across HR teams to drive adoption, integration, and continuous improvement of job architecture across the talent lifecycle

    + Build and evolve role frameworks that align with the skills of the future, including AI fluency, digital agility, and human-machine collaboration. Maintain job families, levels, and role definitions that support clarity, equity, and mobility, working closely with Total Rewards for benchmarking and Talent Acquisition for role consistency.

    + Build and maintain a dynamic skills taxonomy aligned to strategic capabilities and functional needs. Define core, functional, and leadership competencies for all roles and integrate them into talent processes. Use data-driven insights to inform reskilling, upskilling, and talent deployment strategies.

    + Support the selection and implementation of skills intelligence platforms and job architecture tools. Ensure integration of job and skill data into HRIS, LMS, performance management, and talent marketplace systems.

    + Build and maintain strong relationships with C-suite leaders and HR partners to evolve roles in response to transformation and emerging work models, ensuring relevance and adaptability. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment and adoption of talent initiatives.

    + Working with external resources and partners to bring forward knowledge and guidance on executables. Collaborate with Learning & Development and Talent Management partners to embed skills and competencies into development, performance, and career growth processes.

    Qualifications

    + Master's Degree in Human Resources Management Organizational Development Industrial-Organizational Psychology Business Administration (MBA) Data Analytics or Workforce Analytics (with HR emphasis) - Required

    + Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management Organizational Development Industrial-Organizational Psychology Business Administration (MBA) Data Analytics or Workforce Analytics (with HR emphasis) - Required

    + 8 years of experience in in Talent Management, Organizational Design, or HR Strategy.

    + 5 years of experience in Deep expertise in job architecture, skills mapping, and competency modeling at enterprise scale.

    + 5 years of experience in Experience with talent systems (e.g. Workday, SuccessFactors, Degreed, Eightfold).

    + in organizational design, talent strategy (e.g. Prosci, ODP, Eighfold Talent Intelligence). - Preferred

    + Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive change. Familiarity with AI-driven talent intelligence platforms and skills-based workforce planning. Strategic thinker with a systems mindset and a passion for enabling talent mobility and growth.

     

    Compensation

     

    In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the starting base pay range for this position is $99,000 to $155,000 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the Talent Acquisition & Onboarding position. If you are hired at Paychex, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
