Job Summary
Under the direction of a Professional Engineer, provides technical support in the field of civil/environmental engineering to ensure that regulatory and community service-level obligations are met. Responsible for independent management of engineering related tasks as assigned by supervisor, including data collection, analysis and formulation of recommendations.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for completing engineering related tasks as assigned by supervisor. Assists with project related data collection and analysis. Develops recommendations based on the practical application of engineering theories and methods. Works with supervisor to learn basic project management skills and makes contributions to projects where appropriate. Attends consultant or contractor meetings with MSD engineering staff. Develops working knowledge of MSD's regulated functions and regulatory requirements, and applies this knowledge effectively to project contributions. Responsible for developing a working knowledge of the infrastructure, processes and core functions of MSD and then making practical application of this knowledge in all work products. Responsible for working in a variety of work settings including office environments, in the field, and with a diverse workforce. Assists with the development of in-house or public presentations. Conducts field inspection of MSD assets and/or green infrastructure. Assist as needed with the development of planning of future MSD infrastructure projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the Work
Knowledge of basic engineering concepts and techniques; knowledge of regulatory requirements related to MSD's regulated functions and processes; skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite); skill in oral and written communication; ability to utilize Hansen, Arcview, eB,SharePoint, Autocad and Telog; ability to learn and apply basic project management skills; ability to learn and apply presentation skills; ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications; ability to plan and organize work effectively; ability to work effectively under heavy surges in workload and deadline pressure; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to work in a team environment with a diverse workforce; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure.
Minimum Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters ABET-accredited engineering program as a full-time student in good standing. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have safe work and driving habits.
