Description
The Systems Engineer II designs, implements, and maintains organizational systems, ensuring data is secure, accessible, and reliable. They are responsible for identifying and evaluating software and hardware technologies and solutions, and providing recommendations for integration and the use of new technologies within the company’s enterprise systems, networks, and infrastructure. These individuals contribute to planning, deployment, and documentation of IT systems-related projects and technology solutions while considering key factors such as long-term effectiveness, practicality, technical limitations, information & system security, and criticality. These individuals may be asked to contribute to all aspects of business systems and/or infrastructure prototypes and their eventual implementation. The Systems Engineer II performs complex, technical work and derives logical processes based on technical platforms. They provide technical guidance and mentorship to other technical resources at our client These individuals are members of the Systems Engineering team and perform integration testing, as well as problem, business, and technical analysis.
Responsibilities and Job Duties
• Primary engineer responsible for managing storage hardware and software, implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions, performing capacity planning, and optimizing storage performance in support of business continuity, data retention, and corporate requests
• Support multi-cluster, multi-site, VMWare, and Azure environments
• Administers and maintains a Windows and Linux 24x7x365 production environment, e.g., AD, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, NTP, DFS, CIFS, etc., as well as industry standard SaaS platforms like Microsoft Azure, Azure AD, Exchange Online, Teams, Office 365, SharePoint Online, PowerApps, Power BI, etc.
• Manages Identity Provider (IdP) system,s including implementation and support of Single Sign On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) technologies, including Azure AD, SAML, RADIUS, 802.11x, and other technologies
• Collaborates with fellow Systems Engineers and System Owners to update, patch, and maintain a varied enterprise system and software portfolio
• Limited management, configuration, maintenance, and administration of LAN and WAN infrastructure, including but not limited to switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and internet service provider circuits - in support of a hybrid on-premises and cloud environment at all corporate sites
• Collaborates with fellow Systems Engineers and IT leadership on enterprise systems, network design, and architecture
• Acts as an escalated line of support for complex IT issues from within the engineering group, other IT members, technical resources, and employees
• Provides timely and accurate communications with other parts of the organization regarding IT projects, timelines, and compliance
• Participates in the selection, validation, implementation, and training of corporate and IT systems and other processes in collaboration with managers and other departments, as needed
• Provides quality review of documents, as necessary
• Maintains personal awareness and proficiency in new technologies and industry trends, researching, identifying, and recommending new technologies and solutions to support IT and corporate goals
• Ensures all policies and procedures are adhered to, identifying and remediating potential gaps, ensuring regulatory compliance
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certifications, & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and minimum of two years of experience managing and maintaining systems, hardware, and software in a primarily Windows environment
• High School Diploma and minimum of six years of experience managing and maintaining systems, hardware, and software in a primarily Windows environment

Additional Skills & Qualifications
GxP experience would be beneficial, and experience with "Sixth Sense" (Syxsense) is a nice-to-have, but not a must. Experience with SYXSENSE or similar cloud-based patching platforms (preferred), GxP or regulated environment experience (a plus). Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate is a plus.
• Expertise in various storage systems, including SAN, NAS, disk arrays, iSCSI, cloud-based, etc.
• Breadth of experience with data protection hardware and software, including backup, archiving, and disaster recovery solutions
• Proficiency in managing and scripting across different operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows)
• Skilled in supporting VMWare, Microsoft Hyper-V, and/or other virtualization technologies
• Skilled in configuration and support of Microsoft Azure and the full suite of 365 products via web interface and PowerShell
• Strong knowledge of cloud architectures and service offerings (Azure, AWS, GCP, SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, etc.)
• Understanding of network protocols and how they relate to storage systems
• Experience with design principles for enterprise networks (Cloud and On Prem) with a focus on operational stability and flexibility
• Experience with systems monitoring and alerting tools
• Familiarity with GAMP practices or similar risk-based compliance guidelines a plus
• Excellent oral and written communication skills – ability to effectively represent Information Systems in various internal and external meetings
• Ability to manage several high-priority, fast-paced activities within required timelines
• Ability to create quality work in a timely fashion
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but seek appropriate involvement from senior management regarding complex issues beyond position scope
• Must be able to work on site in our office in Rockville, MD, twice weekly

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
